I really do not know how we came to believe that wisdom is the exclusive preserve of the old and elderly, thus making young people believe that they can afford to be reckless in their youth and then automatically grow wiser as they grow older. I think this erroneous belief has led us to having more old people and less "elders", that is wise old ones. Truth is, if you desire to become an elder, then you must apply wisdom in your youth, and then decades of practicing and mastering it will make you an elder -- a wise old person.
Wisdom is the application of knowledge in practical situations to live the best life, and reach the best solutions in all circumstances. It is important to first of all gain knowledge, and that is why it is one of the gifts of the Holy Spirit. Pursue knowledge of God -- the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit; knowledge of the Church, of human behaviour, of societal dynamics and all relevant subjects; then deliberately apply them in your relationship and interaction with others, as well as your day to day decisions and you would have laid the foundation for a wise life, from your youth.
To be young is not to be foolish, there is wisdom for youth, go for it.
Peace be with you!
