My ectopic pregnancy journey

February 12,2023 when i had my menstruation and usually my period lasted only for 4 to 5 days. But that time, it takes weeks and then months. I was so stressed and scared so i had a check up with an OB/Gyne and i was advised to do a TVS (transvaginal sonography). It was then seen that i had displaced IUD (intra-uterine device). So the next day, my IUD was removed. March 15, i had this unbearable pain, if i have to rate it, it was 10 as the highest. They took me to the emergency room, given pain reliever, and while the doctor checked my tvs result, he said that i have an ectopic gestation since i have a positive result on my pregnancy test.

An ectopic pregnancy occurs when a fertilized egg grows outside of the uterus. Almost all ectopic pregnancies—more than 90%—occur in a fallopian tube. As the pregnancy grows, it can cause the tube to burst (rupture). A rupture can cause major internal bleeding.

Often, the first warning signs of an ectopic pregnancy are pain or vaginal bleeding. There might be pain in the pelvis, abdomen, or even the shoulder or neck (if blood from a ruptured ectopic pregnancy builds up and irritates certain nerves). The pain can range from mild and dull to severe and sharp.

I was referred to one of the tertiary hospital in the city and was scheduled for surgery since it was already ruptured. Had multiple laboratory tests, iv infusion, and blood transfusion.

Operation done was pelvic lap. A laparotomy is a surgical incision (cut) into the abdominal cavity. This operation is performed to examine the abdominal organs and aid diagnosis of any problems, including abdominal pain. In many cases, the problem – once identified – can be fixed by laparotomy.

I was discharged after 3 days. Was advised to always take the medicines, do the dressing twice a day, and eat proper meals with fruit and vegetables.

Now, i can finally go home. Thankful for the prayers and support from family and friends.
