No More Revenue From IT Industry

Two hours to five. Five hours to seven, seven hours to ten, ten hours to thirteen.. For each hour without power, innocent people's life turns back for several years. Projects get late, freelancer ratings go down, and ultimately people endup with nothing after years of hard work.

IT industry is one of the biggest revenue-generating industries in Sri Lanka. Personally, I know how much work we have to cover per day to finish the projects on time. Delays cause financial loss as well as end up in legal actions.

In the morning we prepare to the day by charging all equipment. Usually, my battery remains for 4-5 hours but some of our colleges can only survive for 2-3hs. So if the power cut is continuously 5h, we can not work at least for 2h. We have to cover the work later in the day, but when the power cut extends for 10h we can't complete our daily tasks.

Internet is the other thing that hurt us a lot. As routers disconnect after powercuts I have to use mobile data hotspots. If I get a call, the connection drops. And with the power cut, dialog data connections get so slow. So all work delay. The most painful thing is dropping from remote servers from time to time due to the bad connection. It causes to fail command-line scripts at the middle of the process. It hurts a lot.

My room is pretty dark in the daytime. With the powercuts, I work in dark, even without seeing my keyboard properly. Nowadays I used to go out to work because it is too hot inside.

I am very afraid of our job stability right now.

I hope that you can find more ways to get an alternative power for your devices @randula, it is hard not to go online today because we need it for our work because in these modern times people does benefit from being online as their work depend on it, children go to online classes, and like in our case here we earn cryptocurrency in so many ways and helping us for our needs.

All other ways are currently blocked. Previously when we have power cut, We used backup generators to take current. But due to lack of gas, we can't operate generators now. So next solution is solar panel. It's the best one.. But the problem is due to shortage of other sources, Solar panels are extremely cost these days.
