I want to be a multilingual - One step at a time!

in instablurt •  2 years ago

I don't know how long I'll live on earth but I'm positive that I'll live a long and healthy life so I'm also positive I'll be able to learn a new language before my old age and my kids will grow up having knowledge about other languages aside their mother tongue.

Even while writing this, it's kinda doubtful that I'll be able to learn a new language with the way I'm going now but thanks to this question, I'm reminded that I have some "Language goals - Learn a new language" and I'll try to focus on that from now.

Did I say I want to be a multilingual? Yeah!

That is because there are more than just one language I'll love to learn and be fluent in speaking them. Don't worry, I'll choose just one and say my reasons but allow me show some love to the other languages I won't mind having one teacher each to learn them 😅

Urhobo, my family language... Yes, I don't know how to speak my own language fluently but of course, you won't succeed in cheating me in anyway because of that. I know the bad words very well when you say them in my language, you can say I hear my language but too scared to speak them because the last time I did, I was mocked at... My own mother tongue sounds like sweet English in my mouth 🥲

Igbo and yoruba, my crush native languages... They are the only two other languages in my country that I'm in love with. The pride and confidence these tribes people use in speaking the languages is what gets me all the time. Learning the language will also mean it will be easier to transact in so many places in my country because they are dominant here.

Spanish, my crush Hive language... The first weeks I joined Hive, I couldn't help but notice people submitting their works in the Spanish translation and I first thought it was actually a rule until I found some Spanish focused communities where they actually read in Spanish rather than normal English. I could use Google translation but if I could find a way to learn it genuinely, I'd love that very much. I believe it will strengthen my jibe journey, there are a lot of Spanish speaking Hivers 😊

And the number one language I wish to learn first... Korean

If you've been following up my posts, you'll agree with me immediately that yeah, this girl really wants to learn Korean language 🙂 I think I'm a bit obsessed about their language and culture. Don't worry, it isn't a bad obsession... I just love them and would love to learn their language.

I have a long list of their songs, I could sing a lot of them fluently but honestly, I don't know the meaning to all of them yet... Still learning.

One of my wish is to visit Korea someday, learning the language awaiting that time will be a great success for me because I won't have much difficulty in blending in with their citizens.

Learning the language will also aid my easy understanding of their movies without subtitles... I'm a kdrama freak, and I can't do that without their subtitles so if I were to know what they are reality saying, I won't need subtitles anymore. Although I know a lot of words in Korean already but I know it's just a beginning for me.

Learning Korean can also help me in a lot of ways that I'm yet to figure out but I do know I'll gladly learn this language before any other if I'm given the opportunity to... It's my favourite language. After that, I'll go for the next language to learn.

And I'll be multilingual soon, wish me luck!
