SCHOOL IS NOT A SCAM

The situation in my country Nigeria today has made a lot of young people to believe that school is a scam. There are no job opportunities any where making most young graduates to get frustrated after graduation. Some will graduate from school for ten to fifteen years yet no job. They may end up working for people who have less educational qualifications as compared to them.

There are a lot of graduates from our Nigerian Tertiary institutions who are not employed, yet there are no job opportunities any where. This has caused a lot of young graduates to indulge in criminal activities just to earn a living. They may end up being arrested or killed. All their struggle to obtaining good grades becomes a total waste. The essence of going to school seems to be of no use. Hence, they say "school is a scam".

Most graduates sometimes regrets why they even wasted their time going to school. To them, it would have been better if they had used that period of study to learn a skill which could have made them to be self-employed. Hence, they sees school as a waste of time and concludes by saying "school is a scam".

Another obvious reasons why they say "school is a scam" is due to the fact that people who don't go to school are even doing better than those who schooled. Professors, PHD holders, Msc, Bsc holders are ruled and governed by people with lower academic qualifications. Those in position of political leadership with lower academic qualifications earn more than the professors, PHD holders and rest. This makes them believe that making money in life is the priority of every struggle. Hence, they say "school is a scam.

WHY DO YOU SAY "SCHOOL IS NOT A SCAM" ?
Being an educated elite and having known the relevance of education I will always disagree with the saying "school is a scam". I don't just disagree to that saying, but I have some few points to prove beyond doubt that "school is not a scam".

1. GOING TO SCHOOL IS NOT JUST TO GET EMPLOYED: Society has concluded that the major reason of going to school is to get employed and have good paying jobs. But I honestly sees schooling more than that. Going to school contributes greatly to one's mental health and their ability to think positive. Schooling has more contributions and impact to life beyond getting employed.

I sometimes travel to the village and I realized that there is a big difference between the educated and uneducated. The way they reason and reacts to situations differs. Even those classmates of mine who were known as brilliant students then does things in such a way that I often feels they are outdated. This is because I learnt new things of which they Know nothing about. And when I speak, most of them gives me accolades because they have seen the difference. I have gone to higher institution of learning which has changed my moral and thinking capacity to be more than theirs. How then can you say "school is a scam" ? School is not a scam !

1. LEADERSHIP QUALITIES: When I look into leadership, I have always seen that the educated people does better than the uneducated. Someone who has been to school must have read which broaden their knowledge to attend to things properly. Someone who has been to school must have learnt a lot of things and gives them the experience to rule well. No wonder even our constitution demands that one must have at least senior school leaving certificate to be elected in any political office. If school is a scam that wouldn't be the case. School is not a scam !

2. PEOPLE WHO HAVE MADE MONEY STILL FURTHER THEIR EDUCATION: I have seen so many billionaires further their education even after they have made the money. If school is a scam as they said, those people won't bother to further their education. But because they know the relevance of what it means to be schooled, they still further their education. School is not a scam !

3. SCHOOL WILL MAKE YOU TO STAND AMONG NOBLE MEN: School has given a lot of young people the privilege to stand among noble men. Some may say, talent, fame and money can also make you to stand among noble men. Yes, I do agree with you. But the point is, school has taken a lot of young people to stand among noble men as compared to talent, fame and money. School is not a scam !

1. INFLUENCE: Educated people are more influential in our today's society. With all your money and fame you can't influence people who have made fame and money just like you. But with education you can influence the educated and uneducated as well as those who have made fame and money. Education is key. School is not a scam !

1. SCHOOL IS THE REASON FOR CONTINUES RESEARCH WORK LEADING TO THE IMPROVEMENT OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY TO BETTER LIFE: The world would have been in a big mess if not school. Going to school gives young people the privilege to to science and improve technology to develop our society and improve life for mankind.

WHAT'S YOUR ADVISE TO THOSE SAYING "SCHOOL IS A SCAM" ?
My kind advise to people making that statement is that they should shun that mentality. The reason why the world is in chaos is due to the fact that there are so many uneducated (schooled) people who parades themselves as bandits, militants etc making life uncomfortable. You don't have a job after graduation does not make school a scam. At least, appreciate the knowledge you obtained through the years of study.

CONCLUSION
There is always a negative side of whatever we do in life, it's not just in school. Businesses may fail, wealth may fail and oppositions and challenges are just part of life. Those who do not go to school have made it in life while you were in school does not mean you can't make it. Exercise patience and keep your head up, you will make it with regardless to the time it takes.
