Garden Journal: Visiting My Relatives Corn Field and Their Garden

Greetings to all hive gardeners all over the World, its been quite few days since I did not create any post here in hive garden community. For today's post, I would like to share my wonderful experience and traveling as well when I decided to went at our Relative's Farm land. Here in our Country particularly in Mindanao, most of the Farmers planted lots of corn crops in the field. In the vast Province of Misamis Oriental, there are lots of fields contains corn crops. Even in Municipalities, some farmers planted lots of corns in the Open Field. As part of my Garden Journal here at my Relative's Farm, We will explore and knows the different kinds of vegetables we can found at their Garden. This is also a homesteading activities because this place was covered with thick grasses with lots of Bamboo plants. But they cleaned and removed those wild grass and turned into a Farm and a Garden.

For the past few Months, they cultivated this areas and planted lots of corn crops. Corn plants needs to be harvested within 7 Months but the leaves must be turn into color brown before harvesting the corns. Even if there are lots of coconut trees planted in the areas, still lots of corn plants also planted there and this kind of methods is what we called, Inter-cropping.

What Inter-cropping Means?

• This is a kind of Farming methods on which, lots of small crops planted in the place were lots of fruit trees such like coconuts. This is a kind of good farming methods so that the areas will be more cultivated and productive because of lots of crops planted under the massive coconut trees.
  This plants was slowly turned into golden brown color and this will be harvested for the following months. The soil in this area are very fertile because of the decaying dry leaves on the ground.

Cassava Crops:

Other crops can be seen and found here are Cassava crops. This kind of plants specially the crops on it are very highly market demand. Lots of delicacies can be made out of cassava. By planting this, the land must be cultivated first just plowing the soil to make the it soft and pulverized before planting the cassava. By planting it, the tubers of cassava stems must be cut into short length so it can easily planted to the soil. This crops is perfect for Sandy soil areas because the crops can fastly expanded because of the soft sandy soil.

Getting to know About Vegetable Garden?

Aside of crops, they also have vegetable garden. This place is really perfect because it is near at the river, they can easily fetch lots of water for the plants including for the crops.

This are the string beans they planted near at the corn field, it contains lots of string beans and it already crawls those vine plants to the ground. It is not yet fully harvested but if it does, this will be lots of string beans to harvest. This vegetables also grows very healthy because of the fertile soil brought by decaying leaves, and ashes. String beans grows everywhere as long as the soil is very fertile it can also survived in an intense heat brought by the sun and aside of that, it is also very easy to propagate and cultured string beans.

This is high breed Okra Vegetables, it indicates by its long measures. This is perfect for selling to the market place. Okra plants is also very easy to propagate and planted, it will grow and stabled within 4 days after replanted and it bears lots of Okra vegetables in one stem. Okra vegetable can be harvested within 3 weeks after it bears the vegetables.

Lemon Grass and Lutya crops are also very known and common here. Lutya crops can be planted using bulbs on it, just cut the bulbs into smaller pieces and it must be peeling it. Lutya bulbs grows after 2 weeks and it must be cultivated so that the roots and crops will fastly grows and expanded.

On the other hand, lemon grass must be clean always just like by removing its dry leaves. Watering methods or activities must be taken and done 3 times a week.

Papaya plants is also very common here, they also planted 20 papaya plants on each side of the corn field. This can be used as a fence to the corn field they have. This papaya is what we called dwarf papaya because it will not grows taller instead it will produced lots of fruits even the stems are not tall enough.
