In today's post, I am sharing the beautiful blooms of my cactus plant. The history of this plant with me has been quite interesting to watch for. I got this plant two years back from a local Government nursery after requesting a lot there with the officials as a little side pup. Although it was free of cost but I have to make a lot of request to get it. In government nursery, they are not willing to do any extra work so first they refused my offer but I acted like a stubborn so they have to find a way to get me out of their place by giving me an extra pup.
This was the little pup when I got it from there. The bad thing happened with this pup was that it was without any roots and I planted it in the month of December 2020. It was very cold winter at that time and the dormancy period of cacti but I didn't loose hope. I continued caring for it for more than two years and now I can see it has been acclimatized in my place. We have very scorching summer and harsh winters in our place. It also rains a lot during monsson. Some things are good for cactus growth while others not.
I did a lot of work on its soil preparation as I had read that these are desert plants and don't like too much water in their roots. I added more than 50% sand in the soil mix and I think it was the best part I did. Sometimes overwatering occurs due to heavy rainfall but it survives.
The above two images are two months back when buds appeared on it and there was no limit of my happiness. I only have seen cacti blooming in pictures and videos online but never in my personal experience. I was very anxious to see how its blooms will be and I used to check the buds everyday and would capture their slow growth.
In gardening we have to be very patient and learn to care with our hearth. As these are very sensitive to watering and other things, I never showed hurriness to apply a lot of fertilizer to make it very big and get too many blooms. I just observed and time rewarded me for my efforts.
After few days buds began to open and I could smell the good fragrance out of these beautiful flowers. In our life, the moments of true happiness and peace come at such times and I could fee the true joy of gardening in it. Now I will show you more pictures of my cactus blooms in the following pictures along with some beautiful blooms of vinca and portulaca flowers.
