Klepto as they are fondly called.
People who steal with an uncontrollable urge.
Anyone who have the urge to steal uncontrollably, is suffering from Kleptomania especially when they steal what they don't need or what they can afford to buy for themselves. Some could even go to the extent of stealing an item that does not have value. You'd be surprised and disappointed that they stole such an item.
A study once revealed that Kleptomania could begin at some point during adolescence and is predominant in women. Kleptomania is just like any form of crime, anyone who is guilty of this offense would be arrested and made to face the wrath of the law. There is no justification for Kleptomania in law.
People who suffer from Kleptomania are said to have a build up of the urge before the steal and an outburst of anxiety while they are in the process of stealing. You wonder what they derive in stealing - a lot. They derive pleasure, satisfaction and gratification. There is a sense of relief after the urge has been satisfied.

After a while the pleasure, satisfaction and gratification could later turn to guilt and the kleptomaniac would start feeling bad and remorseful for his or her actions. Kleptomaniacs do not steal because of what they would benefit from the item they stole, or because of lack of funds, it's purely to derive pleasure. More like catching fun. They often times gift the items out to friends, destroy them or keep it where they would never see it again.
One point to know is that there are no planning or forethought before the theft - it happens spontaneously. The urge could be triggered when they are in a supermarket, a friend's room, or wherever they can steal someone's property. The level of the urge may vary from high to low. They may resist the temptation when they are liable to get caught.
Kleptomania could be treated with medications and psychotherapy. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) has been proven to be effective in combating Kleptomania. It aims at the thoughts and behavior aspect of the brain that promote the urge. It helps a kleptomaniac to recognize and control their impulse, thereby reducing urge for stealing
