Good day beautiful people. Hope you all are doing awesome today. This is my entry to the @blurtconnect-ng's favourite food contest and I hope you enjoy it again today as usual.
Today I'll be making Samosa and Spring rolls. Now it's been so long I have been craving Samosa and I even tried to buy but the people selling said they only do it for parties when it's being ordered for and not for sale.
And so I decided in my mind and I said "I can do all things through Christ that strengthens me"😜 Well its my first time doing this and trust me, it wasn't so easy like I thought. I had back and shoulder pains after I finished.
Now let's get to business... If you check online, there are various ways of making it but here's how I made mine...
The Making
First, the ingredients and recipe needed are
¶Flour (for making the wrap)
¶Egg
¶Carrot (grated)
¶Cabbage (thinly sliced)
¶Green pepper (shredded)
¶Red pepper (shredded)
¶Onions (chopped)
¶Meat (minced)
¶Curry powder (as desired)
¶Pinch of salt
¶Seasoning (to taste)
So first of all, I made the Samosa sauce by grating, slicing and chopping the cabbage, carrot, green peppers, red peppers and onions and also minced my boiled beef/meat.
After all that, I stirred fried the mixture for few minutes, ofcourse with a little vegetable oil. I also added little seasoning, salt and curry powder. You can also use butter in place of vegetable oil to stir-fry if you wish. After it's done, pour in a sieve to take out the excess oil if there is.
Now because I am doing both Samosa and Spring rolls, I had to put the mixture in two different bowls because we are not using the same thing for both.
For the Spring rolls, I added Mayonnaise to the mixture while for the Samosa, I added the minced meat. Now mix together and thoroughly and then keep aside.
Now to the rolls, this was the hardest part for me. I tried almost 6 different methods I saw online but trust me, none worked for me until I found this method of making a dough and rolling the dough.
So I added flour into a bowl, added a little salt, eggs and little water. Now mix and make sure it's sticky and not watery. This was where I started having back aches.😭
After making that, I had to look for a bottle to roll the dough on a flat surface. It really gave me a tough time, I must confess.
This is me getting stressed out because I needed to have many rolls because I was making both Samosa and Spring rolls.
I was at the verge of giving up but then I already made the sauce and couldn't eat it raw like that. I just had to finish up. Everywhere was already messed up. I was tired!
Well at least, God helped me to get them done. I was placing the wraps over each other but on each wrap, I oiled it and sprinkled flour so it won't stick to each other.
So I took the wraps one after the other and made the rolls by first adding the sauce to each and wrapping it. For the Samosa, you wrap in a triangular shape while the Spring rolls is rolled straight like fish roll. You won't mind my wrapping because like I mentioned, it was my very first time and no one was there to put me through or assist me. It was all me.
Samosa and Spring rolls ready to be fried. 😜
And Viola! Our Samosa and Spring rolls are readyyyy.
I rolled some into sugar just to have a different sweet taste and trust me it was yummy😋
Well it only gets better. Everyone one that tasted it said it was really delicious and crunchy and even wanted more. Someone even suggested I start a business with it. 😂 but I think I prefer it fluffy instead of crunchy. Maybe next time I make it anyway, I'll see what I can do better. Practice they say, makes perfect.
But then I also think I went through the stress of rolling because I didn't have a non-sticky frying pan. That should have worked better and easier in making the rolls and hopefully I get it soon.
I love this snack because it's really proteinous and nutritious especially with the combination of the sauce. It's really a balanced diet and I'm sure you wanna try this at home. Trust me, it's very delicious.
I LOVE samosa ❤️
