The walk to the center of the world, Cape Three Points Light House

in blurtafrica •  2 years ago  (edited)

My last post earlier this week detailed my return to Escape3Points Eco-lodge and a tour around the far, and permaculture projects. That same day earlier in the day we took a hike to see one of promenent sites in the area, the 100 year old light house at the tip of Cape Three Points in Western Ghana.

@dzigbordi taking a rest on a log part way through our walk.

Festus my UK/Ghanaian business partner and his niece Yaba joined us on the walk. About half of the walk was down the beach. The sand is very soft and fine and when wet it made for our steps to sink in quite deep. This make the walking a little more strenuous and we needed to take a few breaks for the pregnant one.

PXL_20220808_104553370.jpg
But everyone was in good spirits and lots of picture needed to be taken.

Like I have said before this is one of my favorite beaches I have been to world wide. I love how the trees overhand the beach.

PXL_20220808_110718616.jpg
At high tide the water line meets the tree line.

Looking back the way we came.

PXL_20220808_111104646.MP.jpg
At the end of the beach is the first point and natural rock break water. This is a world class surfing point I have done the long paddle out to a few times but the swell was pretty big this time. The end of the beach is where the jungle starts.

PXL_20220808_111108929.jpg
The trail makes its way into a tunnel in the foliage.

PXL_20220808_111123455.MP.jpg

And she went into the forest and then was gone, never to be seen again. End of story.....

Just kidding I had to jump ahead and take the lead because I was the only one that had done this hike before and trail makes its way through a marshy mangrove swamp. There a number of branches in the path and in no time I got use lost but not for long. We had to carefully find footing to get across one flooded out area where some ducks were hanging out.

We eventually exited the jungle into a village. Festus stopped to take a pee and emerged from the forest being chased by a black goat which he must of wronged in one of his prior goat lives.

PXL_20220808_113620288.MP.jpg
After joining the road in the village again we started walking up the hill to the end of the point. We eventually make it to the foot of the light house.

PXL_20220808_113729140.jpg
The goats are regrouping the news of the stand off between Festus and the other black goat has traveled quickly among the goats.

PXL_20220808_113715575.jpg
There is also a sign board at the foot of the lighthouse and it points to many cities throughout the world.

PXL_20220808_114459380.jpg
We got some snaps of Dzigbordi on the sign board.

PXL_20220808_114753647.jpg
We walked out on the point to get some nice views and get the closest to the center of the earth as possible. This place is the closest land mass to where the Prime Meridian and the Equator making it 0', 0' but here is close to 4.7, -2.

Time for a few selfies.

PXL_20220808_115414484.jpg
Festus took some time to commune with the ancestors and see about where he could have wronged these goats.

PXL_20220808_115918876.MP.jpg
We managed to climb to the top of the light house for 10ghs each, that is about $1 now. This is the view to the east of the lighthouse.

PXL_20220808_115925126.jpg
View to the west of the lighthouse.

PXL_20220808_115928864.jpg
Dzigbordi and heights have never been good friends. It was a push to even get her to climb the stairs in the inside but she could really not hang up here for long. I will be putting together a video of this whole day and posting on Youtube and Dtube. There is a funny clip where she walks into the lighthouse and turns around and says nope, I'm out when seeing the stairs.

PXL_20220808_123813839.jpg
After that it was time for our hike back down and down the beach to a nice lunch.

PXL_20220808_123817757.jpg
This time it was high tide and the sand was very soft and I took the lead to break the train the rest of them followed in my footsteps.

All photos were taken with my Google Pixel 3xl.

Nice pics! I like the trees overhanging the beach. Are they mangrove trees with the long roots?
When my wife was recently pregnant we had to be very careful to not allow any vaccinated people around her. Mostly she stayed home and went for walks by herself. So many problems with the baby (and miscarriages) are happening to vaccinated women, or women who contact vaccinated women. It is a hard time for a young couple.... now even harder with Covid and vaccines to worry about... I wish you the best of luck!

The trees are mainly what we call Indian Almonds. They have a large almond shaped green pod that falls down and the outside is sweet to eat then you crack it and get another nut on the inside. When we took the trail into the water logged jungle before the village most of that was mangroves.

We both are not vaccinated and not keen to get vaccinated. Luckily in Ghana only about 5% of the people are vaccinated and there has not been a huge problem with covid. But there are travel restrictions if we are to return. Also traveling to the US where I am from can be problematic. But here it is very easy to buy a vaccine card which we are considering so we can visit the US next year. But I also want to be careful with her and any potential problems if we do ever try to get her US citizenship. For now it is advantageous that she is not a US citizen as I will probably gift her all of my crypto before it is time to sell for tax reasons. So one day you may see a public post about how this account is no longer mine and gifted to my wife.

Thank you for your well wishes. It is a funny world we live in. Sometimes I feel like I have chose a difficult path by moving to Africa, spending almost all of my retirement and living is self chosen poverty but then also I see my peers in the US and their own struggles and feel like my path is my own and the right one because of it. There is always second guessing and self doubt though.

Thanks for your thoughts. When was it you moved to Africa?
My wife and I are feeling pretty horrible today. We can't find anywhere to rent, and feel like we will be in bad situations over and over, because of the financial situation of the world. Even with the equivalent of $2500 USD per month, there is just nothing available to rent. It doesn't make sense. A few years ago my rent was $700, and that was very expensive at the time! In just a few years it has doubled and then doubled again, at least. Except now, there's just nothing at all, especially if you are like us (with physical disabilities and not working). We can pay, no problem, but people just don't like us. But people coming in from foreign countries are instantly given somewhere really nice to live, paid by the taxpayers here. Government loves it because it destabilizes the people. We have a globalist government that hates Canada. Immigrants get voting rights and vote Liberal... ie Justin Trudeau... who then opens the borders even wider. It seems to be this way in many Western countries nowadays.
My wife and I had a brief homeless period in 2016 and 2017 and it was very hard on us. Now, we are even older, and not really able to sleep under bushes anymore. And we now have 2 babies. We must have a stable place to live! But in a couple months, we will be unable to stay here anymore, because the owner has sold to a new owner that wants to move in. There are thousands of families (and working professionals) living in cars, and sleeping in the park, or in tent cities, because there are no houses or apartments for them to rent.
All the best to you.

On that note we also had a miscarriage at the end of the last year. She has been looking for answers and even blaming herself but maybe it was the vax shedding people.

How terrible, I'm sorry to hear that.
I don't know the specific situation, but I know that it's certainly possible that some kind of shedding/transfer happened and was to blame. So much will be revealed with time and more research. I hope the truth will prevail soon. My best to you both, stay positive, things are going to be great!!

Love the view from the top! Thanks for sharing such a perfect afternoon (except for the goats, LOL). The beaches look fun, and I'd have to find time to fish a little. Sharing!

👍🤠💗

Thanks for the share and glad you enjoyed. Yeah I can't even remember the last time I went fishing.

Me too on fishing...we both need a kick in the backside, ROFLOL! Looked like a nice beach, a campfire at low tide to cook fish would be fun.

I look forward to seeing the video where I imagine the lighthouse will be seen from the inside. Was it several hours of walking?

How does it feel to be in a place that is over 100 years old? How does it feel to be almost at ground zero of the world?

Maybe you feel the same as in the city in the middle of the world in Quito, Ecuador, I don't know; I've never been out of the American continent, haha, but it must be exciting, @leifasaur, getting to know so many distant and little-known places for us Latin Americans.

A big hug in the distance and a greeting to your wife.

The walk was probably about 40 minutes walk at our pace. Well 100 years does not seem like much with some of the other sites around the country from colonialism dating back to the 1600s and then of course natural sites and more traditional sites dating back thousands of years. It always feels good to be around history that stands the test of time when we live in a world now that everything is so disposable. I cant say that it feels any way to be close to 0,0 but I like being out on the cape, the wind, and the power of the sea and a little bit of natural space is always refreshing.

Thanks for the warm comment and reading.
