Cost of Development Vs Server Cost Part 1

in witness-discussion •  2 years ago

The other day I was going through comments written by a certain whale and I came across a comment that blew my mind.

One of the top investors here on Blurt questions Developers for putting up proposals and asking Blurt/money for development.

Take a look at the comment:

And here's the link for you guys to verify:

I won't be making fun of the comment. I'll just write plane facts and let the community decide if it just takes $20 to get a server, develop and run it.

What's development?

I remember a prominent whale once asked what is development and I understand that not everyone know what it means so let me share it here.

Here's what Wikipedia says:

"Software development is the process of conceiving, specifying, designing, programming, documenting, testing, and bug fixing involved in creating and maintaining applications, frameworks, or other software components"

Source: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Software_development

Skills needed to become a software developer

A lot of skills are required but here are a few that are needed:

  1. Must be good with Mathematical topics
  2. Must know at least 3-4 programming languages
  3. Must have problem solving abilities

Qualifications and programming languages required to become a developer

A Bachelor's degree is needed but there are millions of developers who are college dropouts and a degree isn't required but other skills are needed.

Programming languages a developer needs to learn

  1. C, C++
  2. Java and JavaScript
  3. Database
  4. Python, Go etc

How much time does it take to learn these skills and become a developer?

It usually takes 2-3 years to master these skills and become a developer who can work on projects.

It is not easy and there's huge competition.

I hold a master's in computer apps but I never worked as a developer. I did build websites and stuff but my passion has always been writing and gardening so I built my career in the nursery and landscaping business.

Conclusion

In the end all I want to say is that development is not all about buying or renting a server. Anyone can buy a server but not everyone can build apps or websites.

You can ask someone to build apps for free but never ever compare server costs with the skills that needed to build apps.

Excellent explanation of what it takes to even be here as a developer getting things done. They take care of things that most users have no clue about and don't understand anyway, nor are they expected to. The user is here to enjoy the platform and developers are here to work and make sure if runs properly.

This is a business, developers are like employees with responsibilities, skills, tasks, and education and know how. To not pay them or under compensate them would be no different than firing them and expecting them to keep working. It just really doesn't make any sense. Would you continue to show up at work knowing you were not going to receive a paycheck or half a paycheck? Of course not....

Re-blurted.

Only someone that does have no idea of the matter can write that comment.
A developer that can write from scratch and manage a website with multiple functions based on blockchain can easily earn 80$ per hour.
If he is very skilled can double or more this figures.
The fund from blurt proposal are just something that tell to developers that the community trust them, are far far far from paying their work.
2,000 Blurt x day can pay one our of work a week, more or less, just the time spent to manage the server.

What if the stakeholders doesn't want to hire such a well-educated programmer because they say he's too expensive? Maybe he should lower his salary or find another job?

Of course the stake holders can say the dev is too expensive and reject or negotiate but it should be done in a professional way with proper communication.

Do you feel offended when someone calls you a clown? I am called a fag every day on this blog but I don't cry.

It's not about me getting offended or not. It's about getting your point across.

If everyone keeps calling names and throws insults then there will be no communication and this will lead to misunderstandings, and doubts and fud.

And I don't know who called you names but one of your friends wrote a whole post (2 posts) about my personal life and not a single word was factually correct and these posts were upvoted by you.

I didn't cry when your friend told lies about my work. I confronted him, showed him facts and moved on because he is a troll and spreading lies keeps him alive.

But you are not a troll. You are one of the top investors and we expect a certain level of communication and understanding.
