BONNIE AND CLYDE
A good number of people keep pets for the purpose of companionship. I have a different opinion about them. I care and provide for my pets (dogs) because they aid me in two (2) ways:
- Entertainment
- Security
They help me manage loneliness by giving me one or two episodes to laugh about every now and then. They always act a scene or two before the day draws its curtain. Thus, I love to have them by my side at all times.
I own two dogs that have out grown their ages as a result of a good diet and care. They’re very beautiful. But that’s not the reason for this piece of literature. They taught me a lesson today!
My dogs are named BONNIE and CLYDE.
I bought BONNIE and CLYDE from a neighbor who breeds and sells dogs and cats of all kinds and species. I gave them those names after reading the story of the American criminal couple who traveled the Central United States with their gang during the Great Depression, known for their bank robberies.
They are very notorious. Few days to Christmas, they taught me a lesson; one I’d not forget in the nearest future.
The week before Christmas is always accompanied by sweet aromas forcing their ways into the nostrils of many. This particular week did not make a shift from the usual. While the “shhh” of fried took over the calm and gentle voice of the breeze, their aromas on the other hand wafted the air and made my nose twitch. I was first to behold this glory because I sat next to the fire, directly opposite the mastermind of the cooking, waiting for the first troop of meats to be rescued from the hot oils in the frying pan. My sister always needed someone by her side to taste her meals and shower her with accolades. I always volunteered myself.
I was so engulfed in the two tiny pieces of meat that were given to me that I didn’t notice Bonnie and Clyde gazing at me like I had descended from the dead. I couldn’t afford to share my meat with anyone, not even my pets. While they looked and perhaps wondered why I had suddenly grown stingy, I simply ignored them and ate in peace.
This continued for a number of minutes. I ate in peace and they wondered in silence. My sister soon noticed their grief and thought it wise to attend to their plight. She dipped her spoon into the hot oil and without a second thought, brought out a large chunk of meat and threw it out on the floor for the dogs to enjoy. I couldn’t believe what my eyes were looking at. I had literally been begging for a piece that big the entire time. She had given the dogs three times my share. 😭😭😭
Bonnie being the closest to the side where the meat was thrown made a move for it immediately. Clyde jumped unto Bonnie in order to prevent him from picking it first. They started fighting and barking. I had never seen them fight before. Obviously, they had never been given one piece of meat to share.
Few seconds later, Bonnie was down and blee
ding. 🩸 She had been bitten by Clyde. I quickly rushed to see the nature of the harm. It was pretty bad. 😩
Feeling victorious, Clyde returned to pick his crown (the piece of meat). He dropped it upon licking it with his tongue. He looked like he had been fed poison. The meat was still hot. He couldn’t eat it immediately. He had to wait for a minute or two before attempting to eat again. Out of anger that they fought, I picked the meat, now covered in a little dirt and threw it into the trash can. No one ate it in the end. 🤷♀️

Bonnie and Clyde fought because of a useless cause. A cause none of them benefitted from. Sometimes we humans act in like manner. We fight and hate brothers and sisters because of very minute reasons like girlfriends and pursuit for fame and wealth. In the end, none of these things count or matter.
We should all leave aside careless attitudes and grievances and instead, strive to make our world a better and conducive place.
We should make efforts to LIVE IN PEACE and not only REST IN PEACE.
