I know some people might not know the meaning of omugwo especially the non igbos.
Omugwo is a period( the first three months) when a woman puts to bed, her own mother comes to her house to help her nurture the baby and the mother together. It is believed that the first three months of a new born baby is delicate and she needs to be handled with much care and very well and the mother is said not to be to strong to take care of her.
According to my culture, a woman that is still mourning is not allowed to go for omugwo and I’m yet to understand that mentality.
So my mum is still in her mourning state so I decided to go for the omugwo on her behalf. I traveled to Abuja from owerri on the 20th of April.

This past two weeks hasn’t been easy at alllllll😔 the stress is something you can’t even imagine .
I don’t really know why but new born babies prefers to sleep very well during the day, then keeps night vigil like angels in the night and it is so painful to me most times I cry 😢 while carrying her to and fro and patting her so that she can sleep back😔
In the morning, our mummy in the church comes around to massage her with hot water, press her joints and strengthens her bones 💦 because I can’t do that, she will definitely slip off from my hand . Hmm, I always pity her whenever she is being massaged with hot water, the way she screams eeh even her mum would want to carry her back🤣 but she can’t because she needs it.
For the nursing mum, I massage her with hot water every morning and night though sometimes I skip (I get so tired 😴). I make her sit on a bucket containing some herbs with a hot water (it’s called steaming). This helps the unwanted remaining blood and other birth fluids to flush out.
There is one very special dish that are cooked for nursing mothers and honestly speaking it was one of the reasons I agreed to do omugwo for my sis. It is called immiri Oku ji( Pepper soup yam). This particular water yam is not the usual ones we eat, it is made with enough dried fish(different types ), enough crayfish, enough pepper, scent leaf and some ingredients are mostly Igbo spicies
The journey is still in progress, I will still update y’all till it comes to an end.
