Eat of that which Allah hath given you. And never follow Satan, for he is to you an open enemy. Here Allah Ta'ala has said three things. The fields, gardens and animals that people own are all God's gift. No one else has a part in this donation.

So no one else can be a part of getting gratitude for the gift. Two. Since these things are the gift of Allah, no one else has the right to impose laws and rules and controls only on the use of Allah. It is a transgression to offer a gift in gratitude to someone other than God.

And this is following in the footsteps of Satan. Three. The halal things that Allah Ta'ala has created for human consumption and consumption are not valid by forbidding them in vain. The prohibitions that man has imposed on the use of God-given sustenance and blessings on the basis of his own imagination are in conflict with the will of God.

O you who believe! Thou shalt not forbid and transgress beyond all that Allah has made lawful for you. And eat of the lawful and good food which Allah has given you, and guard yourselves against disobeying the command of Allah, in Whom you believe.

Two things have been said here. One. People should not take the right to determine halal haram in their own hands. In fact, that is what Allah has made lawful. And the forbidden is only that which Allah has forbidden. If any halal is forbidden according to one's own will, then one should be considered as a follower of the law of the nafs instead of being a follower of the law of Allah.

Asceticism and abstinence from Christian priests, Hindu monks, Buddhist monks and Eastern Sufis cannot be avoided. There has always been a tendency among some people of a simple nature with a religious mindset to regard the granting of the right to the body and soul as an obstacle to spiritual progress.

Their idea is to immerse oneself in hardships, to deprive one's soul from the use of worldly pleasures, and to sever ties with worldly means of subsistence. There were a couple of similar mentality among the Companions. Once the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) came to know that some of the Companions had sworn that they would fast for the rest of their lives, never sleep in bed at night, but would stay up all night praying, never eating meat and never coming in contact with women.

The Prophet (peace be upon him) gave a speech about this. He said: "I was not ordered to do so. The soul also has power over you. So some days he will fast and some days he will eat and drink. Worship at night and sleep again. Look at me! I sleep at night. I stand in prayer again. Some days I fast and some days I break my fast.

I also eat meat, I also eat ghee, so anyone who dislikes the rules I follow is not a member of my party. Then he said what happened to these people? Why have they forbidden themselves to use women, good food, perfume, sleep and worldly pleasures? I did not teach you to be a priest and a monk! There is no provision in my religion for abstaining from women and meat. There is no rule of solitude in the corner of the house. The rule here is to fast for self-control.

Jihad is the way to gain welfare here instead of monasticism. Obey the obedience of God! Do not associate anyone with Him. Perform Hajj and Umrah. Establish the prayer. Pay Zakat and fast Ramadan. Those who were destroyed before you are destroyed because they used harshness. What happened to churches and monasteries is their ruin.
