UNLESS I AM TAUGHT... (We all must become teachers)

I am a child, I am born with a plain, innocent mind, I know neither my left nor my right, I need to become a great person, a good person and a morally sound person. These are not natural, they are learned, I too need to learn them, but how can I learn them unless I am taught? Someone is responsible for teaching me, that is why I am born within a family. How come no one is teaching me what I need to learn, yet everyone expects the best from me, that best that I have not learnt, that best that I cannot learn unless I am taught. Can someone please teach me? I need to be taught, I am hungry to learn.

I am a child of God, I am always in church, and I take active part in church activities, but there is something I need to know about God that I do not know yet, but how can I know it unless I am taught? Who is supposed to teach me in the church? My priests are very busy talking about money and projects, and when they take a break from that, they are "performing" signs and wonders. How do these really teach me about God? I really want to know God, I was created to know God, but how can I know unless I am taught? Where are those appointed to teach me? Please concentrate on teaching me about God, other things can follow afterwards.

I am a Nigerian, a born citizen of Nigeria. I read and hear and watch citizenship in other countries. I want to be a good citizen, I want to be honest and law abiding, I want to contribute to the growth and development of my dear country. However, I haven't lived outside this country and I need to learn here how to be a good citizen here, but who is responsible for teaching me good citizenship? Can I learn from the political leadership? Will that make me better or worse? I fear worse. Will my teachers teach me? Or will they only be interested in making money off me? How about the so called senior citizens? Will they be helpful? Will greed and lust for the pecks of power allow them to teach me? I really want to learn but how can I learn unless I am taught?

We cannot pretend to be unhappy with the state of affairs in the land, it is a product of long years of neglecting to teach. In Nigeria, the care for teachers who are entrusted with the responsibilities of grooming the leaders of tomorrow is greatly neglected. Presently all government universities have been on strike for more than 3 months because the government have refused to increase the pay of lecturers. No wonder no body in the country wants to pick up teaching again as a desired job. The passion for teaching is almost lost. But must we stop teaching because we do not get rewarded for it? The answer for me is No.

I therefore beckon on all with the responsibility of teaching to wake up and teach and hopefully we can claw back out of this pit we have fallen into. Parents, teachers, priests, elders and leaders at all levels and in all spheres please let us go back to the drawing board and teach, for they cannot learn unless they are taught, and we cannot blame them for not knowing when we have not taught them. Please teach.
