GAMALIEL PRINCIPLE; My reflection

in r2cornell •  3 years ago

My godson visited me today and while we were discussing he told me about what he was taught in school "The Gamaliel principle of Time," and asked me to tell him more about it. In truth today was the first time I heard of it and I promised to get him a detailed answer by tomorrow, so I researched about it and decided to pen down my reflection about the "Gamaliel principle". I hope he loves it.

In the words of the great teacher, Gamaliel, we find a very useful principle that we can apply in our own lives to great good effect: it says in summary, give it time. Just give it time and so much more comes to light and a more informed decision can then be made. Hasty decisions have often cost us so much and left us with loads of regrets, yet we feel pressured to take a decision even before we know better. Learn the wisdom of Gamaliel or the Gamaliel Principle: give it time.

It is not everything that needs time, and so we need wisdom to decipher which to decide at once and which to wait for. However, when we do decide to give it time, we must be found to be disposed for the expected and possible outcomes; we can't just fold our arms and hope that things will pan out as we desire, we have to work, we have to prepare for the expected outcomes. Very importantly, we have to pray hard for it to end well.

Is there someone you don't like? Give the person time. Did someone offend you and you're finding hard to forgive? Give it time. Is there a problem that is making it feel like you have your back against the wall? Give it time. Is there something you're praying for? Give it time. Are there crises in your marriage, work, school, church or neighbourhood? Give it time. Also, there could be situations in which you just love someone so much, or you're excited about about a new project, a job, a business deal or an investment, there's no need to hurry; just give it time. With time you will have enough spiritual and human insights to make better and more productive decisions. There have been people and things we rushed into and regretted when time helped us to know better. Conversely, there have been people and things we didn't initially like but grew to like them with time. That is another reason we should never take a decision when excited or angry. Give it time.

There is a caveat, however, that you only need to be sure that while you're giving it time you're doing the right thing. Doing the wrong thing and giving it time will only make it worse. Do your best, pray your best and then give it time -- that is Gamaliel's Principle.
