The world will see you as a good person when you are always willing to go extra length to make people happy by being generous, kind and caring but the moment when you do not do these things because it's affecting your feelings and emotions you'd be labeled otherwise. It is not easy to please people - human beings are very difficult to please. Therefore, it may get to a point when you'd start to feel hurt, stressed and depressed because you go over board to ensure others are happy.
There was an old story that was used to portray how humans can be so difficult to please. In fact, the story was more popular in its music form that was sang by Ebenezer Obey, a renowned songwriter and musician in Nigeria. The story is about a man, his son and a donkey that were going on a long journey to a distant village. In those days, donkeys are like vehicles or motorcycles that we use today for transportation.
As an elderly man, the man sat on the donkey and the son was walking by his side as they started their journey. But as soon as they traveled some distance, they met a man that was disappointed that the young boy was walking and the man is on the donkey. So the man came down and let the young boy sit on the donkey so as to reduce the burden on the donkey and also to avoid any further external interference in his trip.
As the journey progresses, they came across another man who called the old man a fool for allowing a young boy ride a donkey while he was walking by his side. The man was confused at this point. So, he brought the child down and sat on the donkey, then he lifted the child on the donkey as well - so, there are two people on the donkey now. They continued with their trip. They traveled for some distance again and they met another man.
The man was like "how are you both wicked, father and son on a donkey at the same time? Do you want to kill the donkey?". At this point, the man said to himself that he will satisfy the people of the world. He and his child both alighted from the donkey and the donkey was moving on its own without anyone sitting on it. After some time they met another man who was surprised by his action and tagged the old man and his son slaves of the world - people who have come to the world to suffer. At this point, the old man concluded that there is nothing any man can do to satisfy human beings.

If you do, they will talk, if you don't do, they will also talk. This is the nature of humans, it is not possible to satisfy human beings. The man in this short story did his best to satisfy every one he came across during his journey but it just seems as though as his journey progresses he needs to please more people. He did all he could to place the opinions of other people above his own which later on begin to tell on his emotions and feelings as a person.
Above all, it is important to set boundaries on how much other people can influence your decisions. The moment it gets to the point where you have to trade your happiness for someone else's own, then you must be cautious. You must know that it is impossible to please everyone.
