There is a frog living in a deep well. Every day, after eating and drinking enough, it sits at the bottom of the well and looks at the sky above. It is truly leisurely.
One day, a bird landed at the wellhead and wanted to come down to drink water from the well. It looked very tired. The frog was puzzled and asked the little bird why it was so thirsty and tired. The little bird said that it had flown over a hundred miles before coming here, taking a sip of water, resting for a while, and continuing to fly far away. The frog laughed heartily and said to the little bird, "Don't brag. The sky above is as big as the well, and I watch it every day. It's not as big as you said!" The little bird smiled slightly and said, "You don't believe how big it is now. Only when you come up and see for yourself will you know." The little bird then flew away, leaving only the frog in the well thoughtful and puzzled.
This is the origin of the idiom "a frog at the bottom of a well", and another related idiom "sit in a well and look at the sky—limited outlook" has the same meaning, metaphorically referring to narrow mindedness and short sightedness.
Don't we also have people in real life who are arrogant, narrow-minded, biased, and ignorant? This idiom is actually used as a satire and sometimes used for self-deprecation.
If this frog is satisfied with its current situation, it will continue to live at the bottom of the well and see the little patch of sky above. If it wants to change the status quo and go out to see the outside world, it only needs to make arduous efforts and have a strong will. How should it be done?
1.Practice its jumping ability every day, and be able to jump from the bottom of the well to the top. This ability is not achieved overnight, it requires long-term effort and some skills. In short, hard work is the only way to make it possible. As long as one works hard, an iron pestle can be ground down to a needle — perseverance will prevail. It needs to have willpower and perseverance.
2.Waiting for the right moment. Waiting for the heavy rain to fill this well, so that the frog can easily come to the ground. But such opportunities are rare and cannot be sought after, they can only be seized, not waited for. Or, in other words, waiting for opportunities while striving.
Effort brings opportunities, and opportunities are prepared for those who strive.
May each of us not be like that frog, sitting in a well and looking at the little patch of sky above, living a simple life. One should be like that little bird, spreading its wings and soaring freely.
Very nice
