I am working on the team realigning the boundary line between my state ,Benue and the neighboring state- Nasarawa state.
The demarcation has become necessary for my state to enforce the anti open crazing law of Benue state which was enacted to forestall the continuous clashes between farmers and cattlemen. This law does not apply in the neighboring state.
The crisis has completely displaced thousands of households who are now mostly in camps( a story of another day).
My team hard to go for a recce survey of the redline.
The trip took us through villages deserted because of herdsmen-farmers clashes. There is no life in this places completely, homes have been abandoned and weeds have completely taken over.
The few villages that were still habited had not identity , they had no names. People were gazing at us through half open doors with their children snicking looks at vehicles behind them.
They were scared just as we were. The only difference here was that we had heavy security, a truck load of heavily armed soldiers.
We crossed so many streams some had bridges some did not , in one of the streams the the military guys crossed and our truck stopped midstream, we were lucky it started up again after so many triers and emergency trier and error mechanical works.
We got to a Market where soldiers were camping, stated our mission, we were booked and we continued with our mission. On our way we ran into a herd of cattle and the herders and cattle took off on sitting us all efforts by the soldiers to make them understand that we meant no harm proved abortive. We let them be and continued with our work .
We completed our work, took the coordinates we needed and returned to base, safe and sound .

Wow this is really interesting. As a hobby farmer deep in the south of Ghana I even get frustrated with the free range cattle herders here, goats and sheep. It is not only Fulani but many other opportunists living in around this growing half developed area.

The land I work is not mine otherwise I would put up a good permanent fence but I am building a modular electric fence based off of solar to keep animals out and I will be adding some goats and pigs so I will be keeping them in. I will surely post on this. I can not wait for things to change or get into arguments with the local alajias I also have to take responsibility for my open farm.
