Nigerian Police Force? So much for a reputation in the mud.

Have you realized how messed up it can be to live in a place where security operatives get to act as judge, jury and executioner?

I tried a ridiculous experiment during a discussion I was having with some lads. We were randomly discussing various things until the discussion got to the issue of Police brutality in Nigeria. Everyone had something to say about this and there wasn't any positive remark about our Policemen.

It was all about the hostility and aggressive approach of the police. Their corrupt practices and a bunch of other unprintable negative remarks. I felt like I could make a good case for our Police because I genuinely believe there must be a Nigerian police officer who never accepted even a free cup of water in his entire career as a policeman.

Guess what?

After the positive remark I made about our Policemen in an attempt to give them benefit of the doubt, it followed a long pause in the discussion. It was almost as if I live in a different world. To be fair, I truly understand that reaction. The pause signifies that there isn't any conversation to be had about good/decent policemen in Nigeria.

In a nutshell,

The reputation of the Nigerian Police Force is already in the mud.

This is the least controversial and the most sensible thing you will read today about the true view we have about our Policemen.

Sadly, and I say this in all honesty, members of the police force are the ones making a mess of their organization. They treat people like they are a piece of shit and step on toes to satisfy their cheap thrill for quick cash, as they had done in the past. One day, all these dubious officers will look back on their careers with shame.

Now that y'all know what the general public thinks about our Police, I think that people have been harsh in the way they point fingers at the police.

Don't call for my head on this one. Haha. I don't rate them and I think some of the praise they get when they arrest people (before legal prosecution) is ridiculous. What they call investigation is too crude for this 21st century. They have a lot of clueless muppets on the job who know nothing about being a competent and decent policeman.

I know all this, but I'm still of the opinion that there must be someone out there wearing a Police uniform in Nigeria or someone that have been on the job who did it with pride and honesty.

I'm right on this, ain't I?

I haven't crossed path with anyone like that but I hope to be proven right about this school of thought.
