Life is truly so unfair, while we’re busy praying for rainfall just because we want the weather conditions to be cold 🥶 and friendly, and the farmers praying for rainfall so that their crops will grow so well and germinate good fruits so that they can have a good harvest, they’re some families out there that lives around the river band areas that can’t go into their house 🏠 because of flood which is cause by heavy rainfall. Two days back rainfall fell so heavy and we that happen to live around areas that have good drainage system, were so happy because the weather became so cold 🥶 and feels so sweet and fresh to the skin, we took it like a compensation to the times that we had face a lot of heats during the dry season, at the same times farmers were so happy too but other families were in pains because the rain as damage the electrical properties and left them with no where to lay their heads . Nigeria government really needs to work on the drainage systems so that this flood wouldn’t be able to occur always when there’s enough rainfall that was supposed to make people happy and cold 🥶 turns out to cause sadness among the some particular citizens of the affected areas.

Stopping floods requires a combination of short-term and long-term measures.

Short-term measures:

1. Sandbags: Place sandbags around doors, windows, and vulnerable areas to block water entry.
2. Flood barriers: Install temporary flood barriers, like inflatable dams or flood panels.
3. Evacuation: Move people and valuables to higher ground or safe zones.
4. Water diversion: Use pumps, pipes, or channels to divert water away from flooded areas.

Long-term measures:

1. Flood-control infrastructure: Build levees, dams, reservoirs, and floodwalls to contain water.
2. Watershed management: Implement measures to reduce runoff, like reforestation, wetland restoration, and soil conservation.
3. Floodplain management: Regulate development in flood-prone areas, enforcing building codes and zoning regulations.
4. Early warning systems: Establish monitoring systems and emergency alerts to prepare for floods.
5. Sustainable urban planning: Design cities with green infrastructure, like green roofs, rain gardens, and permeable pavements.
6. Erosion control: Stabilize riverbanks and coastlines with vegetation, riprap, or seawalls.
7. Flood-resistant construction: Build structures with flood-resistant materials and designs.
