Siempre me ha encantado la naturaleza y el mar, y tal vez por eso, aunque no de forma consciente opté por estudiar Ciencias de la Tierra y Ciencias Marinas. Mis estudios de tesis doctoral los desarrollé en el área de paleoceanografía y paleoclimatología y me gustó bastante esa área de conocimiento. Sin embargo, en cuanto me propusieron el tema de los microplásticos, simplemente me encantó.
Por eso, desde entonces (2018) he venido estudiando y desarrollando trabajos a la vez en un estado de aprender haciendo. Son varias las localidades en las cuales he realizado con mi equipo de trabajo y varios los espacios en los cuales he tenido la oportunidad de compartir lo que hasta ahora he aprendido, tratado de no parar y de llevar el mensaje de una forma u otra, creando imágenes y frases que se queden grabadas en algunos y que paso a paso generen una "Conciencia Ambiental Colectiva" ese es mi propósito. Posiblemente, no lo vea materializarse, pero ser parte del proceso y contribuir desde mi microcosmos simplemente me hace sentir bien y me conecta con el todo.
Este año me gustaría ampliar el trabajo y la verdad creo que ya lo estamos haciendo; y es gracias a un equipo de trabajo, aliados y gente que me apoya para que pueda continuar con estos estudios, sobre todo en un país en el cual se dificultan algunas cosas. Entonces, desde el 10 de marzo el Grupo de Geoquímica Aplicada se desplazó hacia la localidad de lechería en el estado Anzoátegui para realizar un muestreo sistemático en cuatro playas. El día sábado 19 de marzo terminamos la toma de muestras y ahora estamos clasificando la basura plástica recolectada en las playas y separando los plásticos que se encuentran en los sedimentos. En total tenemos 270 muestras y es un trabajo arduo y minuicioso.
En esta problemática ambiental cada ciudadano cuenta, porque con el cambio en sus patrones de consumo y, en la forma en la cual se gestionan los desperdicios se puede generar un impacto positivo en la condición que actualmente poseen los ambientes marinos.
Por eso, los invito a utilizar las playas como medio de esparcimiento recreación y cultura, pero de forma más consciente y a conectarse con los espacios que visitan. Para que con responsabilidad y cariño los dejen mejor de como los encontraron; sobre todo retiren toda la basura y más aún si se trata de plástico.

I have always loved nature and the sea, and perhaps for this reason, although not consciously, I chose to study Earth Sciences and Marine Sciences. I developed my doctoral thesis studies in the area of paleoceanography and paleoclimatology and I quite liked that area of knowledge. However, as soon as the topic of microplastics was brought up, I just loved it.
For this reason, since then (2018) I have been studying and developing work at the same time in a state of learning by doing. There are several locations in which I have carried out with my work team and several spaces in which I have had the opportunity to share what I have learned so far, trying not to stop and to carry the message in one way or another, creating images and phrases that remain engraved in some and that step by step generate a "Collective Environmental Awareness" that is my purpose. I may not see it materialize, but being part of the process and contributing from my microcosm just makes me feel good and connects me to the whole.
This year I would like to expand the work and the truth is that we are already doing it; and it is thanks to a work team, allies and people who support me so that I can continue with these studies, especially in a country in which some things are difficult. So, starting on March 10, the Applied Geochemistry Group traveled to the town of dairy in Anzoátegui state to carry out systematic sampling on four beaches. On Saturday, March 19, we finished taking samples and now we are classifying the plastic garbage collected on the beaches and separating the plastics found in the sediments. In total we have 270 samples and it is an arduous and meticulous work.
Although we are a little tired, we continue to work with commitment and passion to finish in two weeks and be able to estimate the density of both plastic garbage and microplastics found on these selected beaches. This research is quite interesting, since it is the first study in the region that has been carried out exhaustively. With the reports that will be prepared, I wish to make a call for conscience in various spaces to be able to include the different actors involved. The idea is then to participate in the design of
actions that go in favor of environmental conservation.
In this environmental problem, each citizen counts, because with the change in their consumption patterns and in the way in which waste is managed, a positive impact can be generated in the condition that marine environments currently have.
For this reason, I invite you to use the beaches as a means of recreation, recreation and culture, but in a more conscious way and to connect with the spaces you visit. So that with responsibility and affection they leave them better than they found them; Above all, remove all the garbage and even more so if it is plastic.

Amazing job. I also almost every day have to deal with people who throw their household waste carelessly. Almost every day after work, I have to clean the pile of garbage in front of my house which is surrounded by forest. Even though it has been cleaned and reprimanded many times, even a warning board has been installed, the garbage keeps coming.
