Words on the street and all over the entertainment industry is that the Kdrama, Narco-Saints, which was released a few days ago is already breaking the charts.

The latest trend about this show

While cinephiles are soaking in all the intensity that is built into this masterpiece, it appears that the people of Suriname are not exactly pleased with it.

You see, the show is about Koreans that ran a cocaine Cartel in Suriname, a country in South America. A great percentage of the screenplay was supposedly situated in Suriname and we believe this Kdrama to be based on an event that happened in real life.

For some reason, the producers couldn't get to film in Suriname, so they opted for the Dominican Republic. For this reason and more, the people of Suriname are showing their displeasure with the whole thing.

Suriname's Minister of Foreign affairs also vowed to take legal action against the producer of the show. According to him, their country is trying to distance itself from drugs, so a show like this will bring harm to the country's image.

Whatever becomes of this trend is left to be seen, but I've watched the whole 6 episodes of this Kdrama and what I must say is that it is a perfect one to add to your watchlist.

Seriously;

  • If you are a big fan of Kdrama

  • If you enjoy Cross-cultural displays in series

  • If your ears can deal with the tons of cuss words

  • If you don't mind watching a show where religion is ridiculed

  • If you can cope with a high level of on-screen violence

Then, this is something you have to fit into your watchlist.

My overall view of this film;

I don't know about the Americans, Nigerians or even the Chinese lads that were used in this series, but the Korean actors are hotshots in the industry and it's commendable to see all these guys in one Kdrama.

The characterisation is one of the things that drew my attention to this and each of the Characters nailed their role in all its complexity. They had to speak English on some occasions and an awful lot of Koreans are not exactly fluent in English. It was fun to see them try with a very funny Korean accent.

I thoroughly enjoyed the plot sequence of this show. There was so much to be done in 6 episodes and they left no stone unturned.

Remember, this show is rated PG-18 mainly because of the cuss words.

I knew about this before diving into the show, but what I didn't expect is that 90% of those will be coming from 'the Pastor'. Haha.

He is the Drug King who runs a church in Suriname, feeds cocaine to his members and trains them to join his 'Salvation Army'. He also holds Suriname's president as a dice in his grand scheme of things.

His character brings an entirely different vibe to the show and the weirdly poetic lines he used were like music to my ears. Haha. Things like;

  • Are you possessed by Satan?
  • Satan must be playing with your tongue.
  • You have been possessed by a wicked demon.

The dude also said that 'Cocaine is a gift from God. Haha.

You need to see the look on his face when he says these especially when he's fueled with anger. He's one hell of a foul-mouthed pastor and the energy from him hits differently.

I'm giving this show a well-deserved 8.5/10.

I think that's enough gushing about this show from me. Haha. If you wanna know more, feel free to watch it on Netflix.

Vamos 🙂.
