This past weekend, the Young Innovators of Nigeria (YIN) celebrated its remarkable 10th anniversary alongside the 2nd edition of the Technology Ecosystem Dialogue, with a thought-provoking two-day event themed “Securing Nigeria’s Revenue Streams: The Power of Technology.”
The event brought together professionals, tech experts, and veterans from across Nigeria to discuss pressing issues in our tech space. The event’s theme was centered around how technology can secure and enhance Nigeria’s revenue streams, and it was nothing short of powerful.
As a panelist during the 4th plenary session, moderated by the esteemed Mayowa Ajiboye, I had the privilege to discuss Data Protection, Data Analytics, and Cybersecurity in Revenue Systems alongside other industry professionals. Some of the key points I emphasized during the discussion include:
• The need for revenue agencies to invest in training and deploying skilled IT professionals.
• Ensuring data integrity, ethics, and management to reduce revenue leakages.
• Addressing the challenges of adopting digital technologies and assets within government agencies.
The event wasn’t just about discussions; it was also filled with practical demonstrations of innovation and creativity. The National Innovation Hackathon, moderated by Chidiebere Ugwuegbulam, highlighted Nigeria’s vast talent and potential in solving revenue challenges through technology.
Topics like digital transformation in revenue collection, e-governance solutions, and Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs) were thoroughly explored, showcasing how Nigeria can take leaps forward by embracing technology.
A huge congratulations to YIN for a decade of empowering young Nigerians, and especially to Mr. Andrew Abu, YIN’s founder, for his relentless dedication to fostering creativity and innovation. His work has created a platform for young Nigerians to thrive in the tech ecosystem, and it’s truly inspiring to witness his achievements.
On a personal note, it was an honor meeting Jide Awe, a seasoned professional in Nigeria’s ICT sector, and Dr. Olufemi Adeluyi, both of whom have been monumental in the sector. Special thanks to Eric Kaigama, president of the Africa Chamber of Digital Commerce, for facilitating these connections.
Finally, it was great to reconnect with mentors, colleagues, and friends like Bashir Sheidu, Theodore Longji, Juliana Onyeche Alu, Ekperikpe Esebom, and Tasiu Kwaplong. These relationships are a reminder of how collaborative and forward-thinking Nigeria’s tech space is becoming.
Here’s to many more years of growth, innovation, and collaboration within Nigeria’s technology ecosystem! 💡
