Following on from a post 6 days ago, where I talk about making a decent profit from coins found in your circulating pocket change, Ill continue with somencoinsnyou should definitely keep an eye out for.
One of the largest "sets" of coins released in to circulation by the Royal Mint has been the PETER RABBIT series of 50p (£0.50) coins.
The first coin celebrating Peter Rabbit was released way back in 2016. This coincided with the celebration of the 150th anniversary of Beatrix Potter’s birth. It featured an up-close portrait of her most famous literary creation -Peter Rabbit. He is looking straight on and his iconic whiskers were a focal point in the design.
Naturally, the first coin in the set usually increases the most in value, and this holds true for this beaulittle design.
I was fortunate enough to pick up 2 of these coins direct from the mint for just £55. Obviously, these are NOT the circulating cupro-nickel versions, but the 925, sterling silver coin. I couldnt resit the temptation of a quick flip, and whilst the flurry to get your hands on one of these, pricesnon Ebay spiked to over £1200. I managed to sell one coin for £950, keeping the other to complete any future silver set that miggt be sold. I know hold all the silver versions of Peter Rabbits out there.
There were 9.7 Million cupro-nickel Peter Rabbit 50p Coins minted in 2016. If you found one of these in your change and now own the Peter Rabbit 50p coin, it’s currently value is approx £3.50. Prices fluctuating slighlty on most secondary markets.
