First issued in 1847, the Gothic Crown is the latest release in The Great Engravers Collection and concludes a trilogy of coins celebrating designs by William Wyon RA. After announcing himself with the Three Graces in 1817 and producing Una and the Lion at the start of Queen Victoria’s reign, the artist created the Gothic Crown at the very peak of his power, with both its obverse and reverse designs the work of a consummate genius.

Its not often the Royal Mint nails a coin design, but theyve smashed it out the park this time.... Well!! Truth be told, this isnt an original design, but a "remake" of an 1847 gothic crown. First issued in 1847, William Wyon RA’s Gothic Crown is one of the most beautiful coins ever struck full stop, period, end of discussion!

Modern striking techniques have been used to breathe new life into the designs, giving modern collectors the opportunity to getheir hands on a truly inspiring coin and potentially a return on investment not seen on many coins out there.

Drawing on the Royal Mints unrivalled legacy, The Great Engravers series offers the first of two coins paying homage to the Gothic Crown. Available in a range of limited-edition gold and silver Proof editions, the coins are a fitting tribute to the most talented engravers to ever work on British coinage.

Taking inspiration and basing the revamp on the reverse of the original coin, the ornate quartered shield design that has a long tradition in British numismatics, is a fitting tribute to one of the most talented engravers to work on British coinage.
