I can't even imagine being on a plane in this wind and having to land, it's probably worse for the passengers than the pilots as generally they know what's going on and passengers have no idea the level of risk. I remember having bad turbulence once and plates were flying around the airplane, the guy next to me was praying and I was honestly hoping I would survive. When I read up on turbulence later it really isn't that dangerous and incredibly low risk, even though it feels pretty scary at the time. It's things like birds in engines and failing engines that are your bigger risk. I watched a whole load of plane videos after and I now feel less scared about turbulence and more scared of birds lol.
I have been watching this live stream of planes landing at Heathrow and I am gripped.
The worst thing about turbulence is the feeling of not being in control. If you drive, it's 1000x more dangerous than flying haha. It's the most dangerous thing that most people do.. but since we feel in control, we're not as scared. Funny how that works.
the worst bit is that drop. I only had really bad turbulence once and I think it was worse because it wasn't pre warned so we still had food plates out and staff walking around. The plane felt like it dropped in the air and never have I felt that feeling before other than when your on like the tower of terror or whatever at Disney land but it's way more scary when it's real lol but yet no one screams and everyone stays completely silent. There were plates and glasses flying around everywhere and the guy next to me was praying lol. It was only after that I read turbulence isn't really that bad, a plane can take a lot lot more than what we got pretty safely, I wish I had known that at the time ! The thing you really don't want is birds! or failed engines. It's almost never happened a plane crashed from turbulence.
But I agree with you it's also why I don't ever want to bungee jump or jump from a plane as I don't like the feeling I am not in control. It's for sure a real thing haha but yeah cars are way more dangerous statistically but I guess if something does go wrong the odds are a little more in your favour.
These videos got me back on aeroplane disasters as the YouTube rabbit hole always does and just rewatching sully land that plane on the Hudson got me crying lol imagine how those people felt getting off that plane.
