Good morning @blurt, I want to share a personal story to us about how I contacted hair lice because of my carelessness, and how I treated it.

Head lice are tiny insects that feed on blood from the human scalp. An infestation of head lice most often affects children and usually results from the direct transfer of lice from the hair of one person to the hair of another. source

Here’s my story:
Now I naturally have a full hair, so I naturally have dandruff because of little penetration of air to my scalp and sometimes they itch. I have tried to permanently eradicate dandruff from my hair but to no avail. Please if you have any tips for me on that drop it in the comment section.

This is my natural hair.

I thought it was a normal dandruff itching until the itching became worse, like I can’t take my hands off my head, even if I do, I just feel a sensation and I start itching again. I thought it’s still thesame dandruff until one day I felt that sensation again like something was crawling on my hair, I reached out to it and I saw the picture above…. Well I just said “”maybe it’s an ant that crawled on my hair”

I waved it and continued living my life and still itching, a week later same sensation happened and I reached out and pulled behold it was same insect. Then I became curious and thank God for modernization I snapped the insect and searched for it on google… lo and behold it was head lice😳…..
Then questions started entering my head, where, when, how, why🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️.

I couldn’t figure out how I had lice on my head. I did some researches and I learnt that the only way they I just have a contacted the lice is through DIRECT contact, since it only crawls it doesn’t fly.

The itching became worse, I couldn’t hold back….Head lice is too tormenting, you can’t sleep because of the itching, you always feel like something is crawling on your head and that feeling alone makes you uncomfortable and makes you want to scratch your hair.
Sometimes, the lice craws out of your too and at the back of your ears or you back neck too. They have this pinchy sucking effect😫.

So I started seeking for solutions. So I went to my hair stylist and told her about the itching, she examined my hair and told me it was lice.
Then I asked her how did I contact it?

The she told me,
THE POSSIBLE WAYS TO CONTACT HAIR LICE

  1. By sharing your wigs with infected people
  2. By sharing your combs with infected people
  3. By sharing headsets with infected people
  4. By sharing scarfs or any other head gear with infected people
  5. By having direct head contact with an infected person either through hug, or sharing same bed with and infected person.

Now I have checked through all the possible ways of infection that she listed out to me and I know I’m not guilty of any of them except number 5.

Now I mentioned number 5 because we had a two week all night rehearsal program in church. I am in the Drama unit and we had an upcoming event , so we come to church 3 days in a week for all night rehearsals for that program and after the rehearsals we all sleep at thesame place.

I notice some people do wear hair bonnets while sleeping, but naive me that doesn’t know anything will just lie down with my unit members and sleep after rehearsals🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️.
Now that’s probably where I got the lice from. Because I started scratching just one week after the program.

Then she advised that next time I’m going for a gathering and it includes ladies sharing same bed, I should always cover my head either with a bonnet or scarf or anything. Because you don’t know what your neighbor is carrying on their head🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

So after the lecture, she told me it only had two solutions, either I cut my hair, or She will inject a substance into my hair(she refused to tell me what it was😭). But she told me that the option two would be painful.
I couldn’t go for the option not losing my precious hair to head lice after all the torments, so I went for the hard way, she went to a nearby chemist bought a substance and mixed it with the one she had in her shop and injected it into my hair then covered my hair with a shower cap.

For the first 3minutes I was fine and I was wondering why she said it was painful😣 , but as before 5minutes, the pain started creeping in. The chemical was too minty and too harsh, my head was practically on fire, as though I applied 10bottles of aboniki balm on my hair,🤣, I almost ran mad that day. I can confirm table say that, that is the most painful 15 minutes experience of my life. I was just shouting up and down, I tried my best to hold my tears, they were laughing at me because they knew I would feel that way.
The hairstylist even told me that a client fainted because she could withstand the pains, but it’s either the pains or you cut your hair💇‍♀️
I could feel the community of lice on my hair running for and begging for their lives but nowhere to run to because my hair was sealed 😀.

Well, after 15 minutes tilting towards 20-25, the pains started subsiding. I endured all though the process. Then she removed the shower cap, and washed my hair and dried it…. (Washing and drying process was anyi her pain of it’s own😭) During the drying process, all the dead lices were just falling off my hair like rain. I couldn’t believe i habored such population of lice on my hair😳😳😳😳 by the End of the process , I was lice free 💃.

The she told me to go home, change my bedding sheets, pillow case and everything around where I sleep because some of these lices crawls out of your head while you’re asleep and stay there. Believing that you will come back in the night to sleep there so tag they can re-enter your head (imagine🤣🤣)
Then I should disinfect the places with any of the insecticides and I shouldn’t sleep on my bed for at least 2-3days i case there is any one that is proving stubborn, it will die of hunger😃.
I went home and did as instructed, and now I’m LICE FREE!!!

Seriously ehhh as tiny as lice is, it can discomfort you, embarrass you, and out you through pains.
Please let’s adhere to the preventive measures I listed above.

If life was not ashamed to infect my head, I won’t be ashamed to tell my story to save a hair🙈🙈🙈🙈
