Philosophy of life

I know the place of philosophy and I acknowledge the position of superstition.

I can discern the thin line between dogma and logic. Likewise, I believe there is a distinction between myth and reality.

I know science works with empirical evidence but I've also lived to witness the potency and efficacy of paranormal activities.

From my little experiences in life, I've come to contend with the fact that supernatural, metaphysical and extraterrestrial power exist.

There are some unseen forces behind the physical manifestation of esoteric occurrences.

When I was very small, between the age of 8 and 10 in South-West Nigeria, I saw two Hausa men exhibiting black magic in a market square using sharp objects like daggers, swords, knives and blades to cut their bodies without any penetration or blood on their bodies. They fortified themselves against metals.

A man once drank a big bowl of Garri in the full glare of the public and devoured it in less than five minutes. Almost everyone watching him had their bellies filled to the brim. Astounded?

In 2003, I was in JSS 2 in Ijebu Muslim College Ijebu-Ode. No sooner had we closed from school one afternoon than we saw a beautiful woman --- probably in her early 40s --- suddenly stripped herself naked and walked from our school gate to a market called "New Market".

We followed and watched her lunatic displays to the market quadrangle. Shortly after she entered the market, market women started removing their wrappers and threw them at her hoping that she would use one to cover her clothe-less body but what marvelled me was that she did catch the wrappers, looked and them disdainfully and threw them back as she wobbled deeper into the market square.

That's when I knew the meaning of the Yoruba saying that: "Aṣọ́ o bá Ọmọ́yẹ́ mọ́, Ọmọ́yẹ́ tí rìn hòhò wọ́jà". This means, contextually, things have gone beyond control.

I also recall vividly when a senior was slapped by a charm-wielding guy as a riot broke out after an inter-secondary schools football match. His tongue instantly loosen out with a pool of saliva slobbering out of his mouth uncontrollably. Until they begged the attacker for the antidote; no doctor could save him.

In 2007, a man died miserably somewhere in Nigeria. Before he died, he confessed all the evils he had done ranging from snatching one's glory, destroying promising talents, killing some people who allegedly crossed his line and casting a spell on one young corps member who impregnated his daughter. The poor guy ran mad on completing his NYSC.

In 2010, when I was doing my IT as a student of Mass Communication at NTA Ilorin, we covered the "Shao Awonga Mass Wedding" in the ancient town of Shao, Kwara state.

A man displayed supernatural power while eating some sorts of leaves from a local pot containing a weird concoction.

Within a blink of an eye, his upper teeth sprawled out to a length approximating 3 inches. Beholding this, my pen danced terribly on the paper as fear sent shivers down my spine.

A coursemate once told me that her sister who possessed paranormal ability warned their mum one day not to sit on a sofa in her office. She got there and checked underneath only to find a gourd stripped with snail shell, a pair of cowries, red thread and some other strange things. Had she sat on it, she would have gotten automatic admission in mortuary.

Some people have the power to command, cast, bind, tie, loosen, invoke, revoke, destroy, construct, cure, heal, join, separate and do all sorts of things through supernatural powers.

Some have their powers in their eyes, tongue, hands, legs, even nose (they can smell imminent danger and ward it off) while some people's powers are in their minds. Some of these superhumans are good while some are bad. May we not fall into the wrong hands. (Ameen).

Nevertheless, the bone of contention is that there is "village people" and there are powers that are more than powers. But as a believer, I believe the power of God is supreme. And if the Grand Architect of the universe does not validate, no other powers can work!

To this end, science, despite its huge advantage to the human race, still have to drop its toga of pride and come to terms with the fact that, extraterrestrial power do not only exist but also manifest in some ways that are beyond the logical explanation of human psychology.

This life is complex. We've got to play our part to make the best out of it. That's why I write to right. Onireke is a flawed personality; I can't always be right. Take the message and let's beseech God to better our lives so that we can emerge victorious.
