It is not new that inflation has really taken over the market especially here in west Africa where the price of goods and commodities tend to triple their initial prices and as such the best way to cope with the rate of inflation now is to divert necessary resources into farming and gardening.
This is what I have been doing for the past years to sustain myself and cope with the rate of inflation so, let me take you on a tour to see the different vegetables and fruits around my garden.π
Fruits
Edible and medicinal fig π
This is one of the fig species and this one is highly medicinal also tastes a bit like vine but not as sweet as a vine and It bares fruit once every raining season.
Sugar apple π
This fruit was planted by my dad and I'm not familiar with it but he called it sugar apple's
Most fruits are still growing on the garden so let's look at the vegetables.
Vegetables
Pumpkin π₯¬
These are pumpkin leaves typical vegetables here in Nigeria and very costly in the market now due to inflation. I have a plot full of them.
Water leaves πΏ
On the other side of the garden there you will find a water leaf bed this is the most used vegetable here and it is used to prepare various kinds of local dishes.
Chili πΆοΈ
They are really helpful and spice up your meal to feel hot.
One night I was going to make dinner I went into the garden to get some.
Okra π΅
This is very popular and common for most people here. It was really scanty and scarce during the past winter but they are now recovering and i have planted more of it but they have not yet blown out flowers so I didn't take pictures of them.
Maize/Corn π½
This is the actual season for maize and alot of people do plant them either for commercial purpose or home use.
Here I planted two different seasons, one is a late planting which is just germinate recently from the soil and the other is an early planting which is already bringing out maize π½.
Cassava π π
Here in my country this is one of the most valuable tube and soil food because they are always refined into Various kinds of foods like cassava flakes, abacha (native salad) and the rest which are the main foods here in my country.
Unfortunately I harvested last season and didn't take any picture of it and these ones here are just germinating and they are not up to two months old.
We plant the stems of the cassava few cm above and under the soil
then after few weeks the stem above the soil gets to bring out bud's of leaves while the part under the soil starts to form cassava tubers and after 6 to 9 months we harvest them and plant another season.
Due to the rate of inflation here in my country Nigeria we all need to go into farming to sustain ourselves and our families I so much thank God for the grace given to us to withstand the pressure in farming and it is a privilege to show you around our little and rich garden π.
Thank you!.
