TERSOO'S ADVENTURE

The bus arrived Ojota Motor Park late in the night. It had been an over 12-hour journey from Makurdi to Lagos despite the high speed driving by the bus driver.

Tersoo was extremely tired and exhausted as he alighted from the bus. He had never been on such a long distance journey. And indeed this was an experience worth writing home.

Throughout the journey they had no hitches or setbacks. They only had to stop by some junctions and parks to get some refreshments to ease the stress of the long journey.

Stepping down from the bus, he took a deep breath and sighed. Finally, he was here in his dreamland. He had lived all his life in Makurdi and had always dreamt of traveling out one day.

Lagos had always been where he wanted to be. He had envisioned life in Lagos as a glorious and exhilarating one from the stories he had heard and movies he had watched.

He had been told tales of how people encounter life changing moments and swiftly have a twist in their fate and experience good tidings in life.

He had also been told about the chances of meeting celebrities and other great people from all walks of life.

Leaving the trenches ( as he dubbed Makurdi) to live in an urban area was one thing he would stand a chance to attain in Lagos.

All these had triggered his zeal to travel to Lagos and now he was set off for a new phase in his life.

He took his box from the boot of the bus and headed towards a building in the park. He was to wait at the park for his uncle to come and pick him up.

Heading towards the building, a young man bumped into him and his box fell off his hand. He bent down and picked his box. The young man apologized to him and they all went their separate ways.

While waiting at the building, he felt the urge to buy a soft drink to cool off. He reached out for his wallet but couldn't find it in the back pocket of his trouser.

His wallet had been stolen. It dawned on him that the young man who bumped into him had gotten away with his wallet while he bent down to pick his box.

He was traumatized. He had never thought of Lagos to be this cruel. All he thought was a land filled with milk, honey and green pastures.

He narrated his experience to his uncle who arrived few minutes later to pick him up. After listening to his story, his uncle replied "Tersoo, this is Lagos".

He was bound for more adventures.

A rainstorm passed through today, the first major rain since November. It came with a whole lot of wind at once. Many of the roofing sheets around the resort came lose and went flying.
