MY EXPERIENCE WITH A VOODOO MAN

in instablurt •  3 years ago

I wrote about African voodoo in my last post and in this post I would love to share a personal experience with us.
I live in a community that has a park and a major junction right in front of the park. It's a very busy environment, with plenty business transactions running up and down
Now, there's this man that once came to this park to perform voodoo. He brought a microphone, a black sachet and an empty carton. He drove a very old rickety car. He stood in an open square and started making announcements of his powers and personality. One after the other we started to gather till we formed a crowd listening and waiting patiently for him to perform magic.
After giving himself self acclamation, he told the crowd that anyone among the crowd can come forth and ask for anything of his or her choice and he will command the thing to come through the empty carton. A young guy went out of the crowd and met him right in the middle and demanded for a mobile phone. The magician as we had started calling him, turned and asked the crowd whether he should grant the young guy's wish and th e crowd responded positively in unison. This magician stretched his hand right into the empty carton and brought out a mobile phone,. right in our presence and handed it over to the guy. We all applauded him. He did not even demand for anything from the boy. Some of us started muttering amongst us that "nothing goes for nothing" and that the young guy might pay back in some other means, maybe spiritually.
This magician went on with his self appraisals and after every moment of proclaiming himself the Lord of voodoo, he would call out a person randomly and then repeat the same process as he had done with the first guy but this time for other items. He told us that the items were being commanded to come forth from the markets in our town.
After giving out items through his magical spells, he brought out some rings. He told us that the rings are a lucky charm, whoever puts the ring on his or her finger will find success in whatever endeavors. At first the crowd was reluctant to respond positively towards this very one. We looked at it like having a diabolic covenant with some spiritual and evil forces.
While we were contemplating on whether to receive the rings from him or not, one lady who thinks she's the bravest among us went forward and collected the ring. The man was impressed with her bravery and told her that whatever business she was into, she would excel tremendously.
Consequently, other persons picked interest in the rings but this time they man demanded for a little token. Convinced enough, the crowd started giving him funds to receive the rings. He had ended up turning his voodoo into a business scheme. I was not interested in buying the ring so I only watched the struggle for the rings by the crowd
