বাংলাদেশের চিরাচরিত নিয়মানুযায়ী বর তার আত্মীয়-স্বজনসহ অন্যান্য সহযাত্রীদের নিয়ে কনের বাড়ি যান বিয়ের আনুষ্ঠানিকতা সম্পন্ন করতে। এবং সেখান থেকে কনেকে নিজের বাড়িতে নিয়ে আসেন।

কিন্তু চুয়াডাঙ্গার সদর উপজেলার হাজরাহাটি গ্রামের মেয়ে খাদিজা আক্তার খুশি এক্ষেত্রে উল্টো কাজটি করেছেন।

তিনি তার সহযাত্রীদের নিয়ে মেহেরপুর জেলার গাঙনি পৌরসভার চৌগাছা গ্রামের ব্যবসায়ী তরিকুল ইসলাম জয়ের বাড়িতে হাজির হন বিয়ের আনুষ্ঠানিকতা সম্পন্ন করতে।

বিয়ের একটি ভিডিওতে দেখা যায়, প্রথাগতভাবে বিয়ের অনুষ্ঠানস্থলের প্রবেশমুখে যেভাবে বরকে বরণ করা হয়, তেমনি এই বিয়েতেও কনেকে ফুলের মালা পরিয়ে, মিষ্টি খাইয়ে বরণ করে নেন বরপক্ষের আত্মীয় স্বজন।
এরপর বর কনে আসনে বসে বিয়ের আনুষ্ঠানিকতা সম্পন্ন করেন। সব অতিথিদের আপ্যায়ন শেষে সন্ধ্যার দিকে বরকে নিয়ে কনে চলে যান তার বাবার বাড়িতে।

ব্যতিক্রমধর্মী এই বিয়ের অনুষ্ঠানকে ঘিরে স্থানীয়দের মধ্যে উৎসাহের কমতি ছিলনা বলে জানিয়েছেন সেখানকার এক সাংবাদিক।

বিয়ের অনুষ্ঠান দেখতে বরের বাড়িতে যেমন উৎসাহী জনতা ভিড় ছিল তেমনি কনের বাড়িতে অনেক মানুষ জড়ো হন বলে তিনি জানান।

এই প্রথার বাইরের বিয়ের প্রস্তাবটি আসে মূলত বর তরিকুল ইসলাম জয়ের বাবা আবদুল মাবুদের পক্ষ থেকে।

"আমার বাবা ওয়ার্কার্স পার্টির জেলা সেক্রেটারি। তিনি অনেক জায়গায় বক্তব্য দিতে গিয়ে নারী পুরুষের সমান অধিকারের কথা বলেছেন। এবং তিনি কাজেও সেটা প্রমাণ করার জন্য আমাকে এভাবে বিয়ে দেয়ার চিন্তাভাবনা করেন।" বলেন বর তরিকুল ইসলাম।

তারা চেয়েছেন এই বিয়ের অনুষ্ঠানের মাধ্যমে নারী পুরুষের বৈষম্য দূর করার একটা দৃষ্টান্ত স্থাপন করতে।

এ ব্যাপারে কনে খাদিজা আক্তার বলেন, "ছেলেরা যদি পারে মেয়েদেরকে বিয়ে করে নিয়ে আসতে তাহলে মেয়েরা কেন পারবেনা। নতুন সিস্টেমে বিয়ে করতে পারে আমি অনেক খুশি। প্রথমে ভেবেছিলাম এভাবে বিয়ে করবো, ঠিক হবে কিনা। কিন্তু পরে আমি রাজী হই। এমন আনকমনভাবে বিয়ে এর আগে আর কেউ করেনি। বিয়েতে এজন্য অনেক আনন্দ হয়েছে।"

শুরুতে দুই পরিবারের আত্মীয়-স্বজন এবং পাড়া-প্রতিবেশী আপত্তি জানালেও পরে তারা রাজী হন। এবং সাদরেই এই প্রস্তাবকে গ্রহণ করেন।

অনেকে কোর্টে গিয়ে বিয়ে করেন, অনেকে মসজিদে বিয়ে করেন। আমরা ধর্ম মতে বিয়ে করেছি। কাজী ছিলেন, সাক্ষীরা ছিলেন। সেভাবেই বিয়ে রেজিস্ট্রি হয়েছে। বিয়ের আসল আনুষ্ঠানিকতা তো এটাই। সেটা তো আমরা ঠিকভাবেই করেছি। এখন অনুষ্ঠান কিভাবে হল না হল, সেটা নিয়ে কারা কী ভাবল, কী বলল সেটা আমাদের দেখার বিষয় না। একেক মানুষ একেকরকম ভাববে, এটা যার যার ব্যাপার" বলেন বর মিঃ ইসলাম।

বিয়ের অনুষ্ঠান শেষে ফেরার সময় কনে ও তার পরিবার সাধারণ শোক বিহ্বল হয়ে কান্নাকাটি করেন।

কিন্তু এই বিয়েতে তাহলে ফেরার পরিবেশ কেমন। সেটা নিয়েও মানুষের আগ্রহের শেষ নেই।

এ ব্যাপারে মি: ইসলাম বলেন, "মা-বাবাকে ছেড়ে যেতে কষ্ট হয়েছে। তাদেরকে সালাম করে দোয়া চেয়ে ফিরেছি। পুরুষ মানুষ, সহজে চোখে পানি আসেনি ঠিক কিন্তু কষ্ট হয়েছে। তাই চুপচাপ ছিলাম।"

Translation:

According to the traditional rules of Bangladesh, the groom goes to the bride's house with his relatives and other companions to complete the marriage ceremony. And from there he brought the bride to his house.

But Khadija Akhter Khushi, a girl from Hazrahati village in Sadar upazila of Chuadanga, has done the opposite.

He and his companions came to the house of Tariqul Islam Joy, a businessman from Chougachha village in Gangni municipality of Meherpur district to complete the marriage ceremony.

As can be seen in a wedding video, just as the groom is traditionally greeted at the entrance of the wedding venue, so too the bride is greeted by relatives of the bride wearing garlands of flowers and sweets.
The groom then sits on the bride's seat and completes the wedding ceremony. After entertaining all the guests, the bride goes to her father's house with the groom in the evening.

According to a local journalist, there was no lack of enthusiasm among the locals regarding this exceptional wedding ceremony.

He said many people gathered at the bride's house just as there were enthusiastic crowds at the groom's house to watch the wedding ceremony.

The marriage proposal outside of this custom comes mainly from the father of the groom Tariqul Islam Joy Abdul Mabud.

"My father is the district secretary of the Workers' Party. He has spoken in many places about the equal rights of men and women. And he is thinking of marrying me like this to prove it at work." The groom Tariqul Islam said.

They want to set an example of eliminating gender inequality through this marriage ceremony.

In this regard, the bride Khadija Akhter said, "If boys can marry girls then why can't girls. I am very happy to be able to get married in the new system. At first I thought I would get married this way or not. No one else has done it before. It's been a joy to be married. "

Initially relatives and neighbors of the two families objected but later they agreed. And he gladly accepted the offer.

Many go to court and get married, many get married in the mosque. We are married according to religion. There were judges, there were witnesses. That is how the marriage was registered. This is the real formality of marriage. That's exactly what we did. Now it is not up to us to decide what happened, what the people thought and what they said. Everybody will think the same, it is a matter of one's own, "said Mr. Islam.

When the bride and groom returned at the end of the wedding ceremony, they wept bitterly.

But what is the return environment like in this marriage? There is no end to people's interest in that.

In this regard, Mr. Islam said, "It was difficult to leave my parents. I greeted them and returned with prayers. Men, tears did not come easily, but it was difficult. So I was silent."
