At the end of this, I will leave behind a nice poem for your reading pleasure title: “The tears of an iroko tree” written by me.

Our surrounding has been plagued by our hands of which falling of trees indiscriminately has been one of the major problems. These trees with the greenish leaves at sprouting are proof of nature’s goodness. Adding a sense of humor to our surroundings. Researchers have shown that young and beautiful flowers or plants even the smell is a sensational relief on our nerves. Horticulturists in their magnanimous effort in making our surroundings beautiful by planting and not making some species go extinct. We can also practice this act by planting or making little gardens. At the waning or aging period, most leaves become yellow more especially the iroko tree. These trees stand as landmarks in some areas and provide shelters to some birds.

Research has shown that Plants’ roots have been a tool to stopping landslides which are more important to some tropical and hilltop regions. Also in construction processes wood has been a major tool. In the construction of bridges, houses, furniture, etc. Coal for cooking is also a by-product of wood.

Iroko tree signifies strength, bravery and, a warrior in our folk tales or novel. The fall of a Might man can be seen as the fall of an iroko ironically. The importance of these plants is too numerous even to the fact that the oxygen we breathe and the food we eat are from them. Below is a poem which centers on importance of trees.
I'm the color green in blissful days
I'm the color yellow in my waning days
I'm of different gender
With the same agenda
Am natures goodness
The creators’ creation
I'm an edifice
I'm the Treasured Statue sitting right at the village square.
I'm a wonder to my admirers.
I'm the landmark
Thrilled by the wind
Scorned by the rain
Yet, i stand
My roots are without ranges
My trunks are canopies
For the refuge
In silence i grew
Nurtured by nature
Tortured by creature
While I moaned
They smiled they have won
I’m the essence of their being
I'm the roof over their head
I'm the morsel in their Stomach
I'm the idol in their mysteries
The Mantra in their histories
The hero in their novels.
For days I laid in wasteland
Stacked by mankind
With ruins of different kind
Gone are the days
When my fallen branches are honored
Gone are the days
When my seeds are treasured
My evolution awaits my extinction
But "NO," says the creators will.
My roots are their route
The bridge to their clans
My worths are their legacy
Laid for posterity
I'm the episode of great sons
My sprouting birthed men
Yet, without remorse
Men tossed me to fall
And when i fell
The ground quivered
"The iroko has fallen"
My nooks where their sanctuary
For centuries they worshipped me for the Trinity.
Fed me with wine, blood, and cowries
I drank and eat to stupor
I flung my leaves
And branches
Shaded the much i could
They took it for my words
They said
"I Fought their wars without armor
Alongside their warriors."
My bark bruised the warfare of arrows
Stabbed with spare of glittering pick
We sang songs of victories
With gallant men
and fearless women
We combed territories
Our bravery was without boundaries
But when they received salvation
They sang songs of redemption
Left every form of evil divination
And torsed me to the fall
And when i fell
The ground quiver
"The iroko has fallen."
I have never spoken
And never will I
But my wonders
Shall never retire.
END
