Last Friday we celebrated the 5oth Wedding anniversary of our parents. Almost a hundred immediate family members and friends were gathered on the 25th day of February to celebrate the momentous event of our parents. The original plan is that the celebration is supposed to be celebrated last year on December 30th which was the actual date of their marriage in the year 1971, all were planned already by early November. The venue was booked already as well as the catering service that will provide our foods in the event and even paid both services half the price as a downpayment but in unfortunate matters, all plans were postponed due to the typhoon that severely damages almost the entire Cebu and its neighboring island. Because of the damages brought by the typhoon, Mama decided to cancel the celebration instead, and withdraw the payment we gave for the services, but we insisted to move the date of the event instead of canceling the most important event of their lives.
So, we all agreed to move their wedding anniversary celebration to the 25th of February which is a non-working holiday as well so that some of the immediate family members and family friends who have daily jobs can attend. So, we get in touch with the services and informed them of the date of the event. And finally, with God's grace, the event went well and so with the weather that seems to be on our side by that time, since the venue is an open area and just using a popup canopy tent for the guests.
Along with the venue and catering service, we also hired someone to design a certain area of the venue where our parents are going to sit during the event. We requested to have an arc-shaped structure that will incorporate the celebration with the initials of our parents' first names being attached to it also. And so, the designer went well turns out to be exactly what we wanted with the initials of their first name in gold accent. R for Rosie and N for Nesio with the heart shape in between. Check it out in the first photo.
The celebration was started with a mass, a thanksgiving mass at the same time for giving our parents a chance to celebrate their golden wedding anniversary in good shape, despite the dilemma we are all facing starting with the pandemic and the recent typhoon that hits our place badly.
In the middle of the homily, the priest asked our parents to hold each other's hands so as to bless both of them and spray them with holy water at the same time. The priest even gave a short speech to everyone who attended the mass saying that our parents are good role models and perfect examples of a great couple to look up to, especially to every married couple who attended.
Right after the mass we had a short picture taking with the whole family together with Father Ver before heading to the tables for lunch.
After taking a few family photos, we then head to our tables that are served already with foods from the catering services.
After everyone finished eating lunch, we continued the picture taking but this time it was the siblings of our parents. Everyones have been busy arranging themselves where to position in the frame.
Lastly, the best way to celebrate their Golden wedding anniversary is to have a cake of course. We also customized the cake according to the celebration a three-layered cake with a golden accent and still with our parents' initials of their first names.
After all, it's never been about the cuisine or the decor, though. It was about how the entire family joined together to create a loving occasion and how we all pooled our resources to honor two incredible people we call family. Thank you, Mama Rosie and Papa Nesio, for showing us what love is all about.
Happy anniversary to your parents! Wishing umabot din hanggang Diamond Anniversary and more. ❤️
