Tomorrow is San Isidro day who happens to be tha patron saint of the city I live in. Remember, Honduras has predominantly been Catholic, despite Evangelical churches making good headways in that area. In any case the city holds its fair in honor of this saint and it starts tonight with a wake or vigil(I don't know the right word). In any case they build a cottage like building on the main street, and a procession is made to get the saint there.
As you can see we already had a lot of fireworks early this evening, I am guessing that will go on all night. Then tomorrow the fair officially starts. i believe this is unique normally the saint's day marks the end of the fair here it is the beginning.
The electric games are already working, big ferris wheels, satellite, and I don't even know the names of the other machines. I don't know because I don't care, I am not setting a foot on one of these things. I refuse to pay to just the crap scared out of me. Thousands of people, whom I think are masochists are willing to pay for this though.
Of course there are a lot of other attractions, like the cattle and land workers have their own grounds where they show the best they have. There are rooster fights (I know, you are probably against them, I am too, I only bet once, against a one eyed rooster, but only because I didn't know he was the champion. that somehow dampened any enthusiasm I had for that particular activity, so now I am against it. Also at the fairgrounds they play dice. i go to watch that, I mean it is ridiculous the amount of money they gamble there. This is a poor country and I have seen $10,000.00 bets, and yes, there are a lot of hundred dollar bills in those games.
But the main attraction is the carnival which will be held on the 25th, it is the largest carnival in Central America (I bet someone will disagree with that). Actually it is just a lot of people mostly getting drunk. I hardly ever go any more, just to the afternoon parade which is sometimes OK. Only way I go is if there is some musical group I particularly like and I want to hear them. So May is all set up for me.
