World hypertension day!! A day set aside to sensitise the world at large about the Silent killer(hypertension).
It is also known as high blood pressure a condition where the force that blood exerts on the blood vessels as it flows through them is consistently too high.
Many people are less likely to experience symptoms hence why we refer to it as silent killer, but it is best to run a regular blood pressure reading as early detection is important. Treatment include healthy life adjustment and prescription medications.
Being a Pharmacist, I have been present in several medical outreach in different communities only recently I participated in one organised in my hometown. Sadly, 75 percent of persons who attended were hypertensive and most weren't on any medications because they only just knew for the first time or had little or no knowledge of the condition.
This sensitization is very important especially in Africa because many at times they believe that death of their loved ones were caused by an enemy who is involved in Black Magic. They fail to understand that it isn't just enough to exist but it's pertinent to make healthy lifestyle choices, hence being intentional about one's health.
