Chinese state-owned news publications recruit the latest presenters who are the result of artificial intelligence (AI) or artificial intelligence. A virtual news presenter named Ren Xiaorong is claimed to be able to answer questions and deliver news broadcasts every day non-stop.
It is also said that Ren Xiaorong will be more sophisticated than other news anchors, because this virtual presenter has already absorbed various up-to-date information. This amazing and terrifying technology is so great that Ren Xiaorong's intelligence is equivalent to that of 1,000 news presenters.
"The ability of 1,000 presenters has been given to me. For 365 days and 24 hours straight I will report the news without rest," Ren Xiaorong said in his introduction event on China's social media Weibo, quoted by the Daily Mail
However, Ren Xiaorong must not work carelessly. He was only tasked with bringing news that had previously been controlled by the Chinese government.
That's why, screenshots report that this digital presenter was only able to answer pre-set questions, and the responses he gave greatly promoted the line of the Chinese Communist Party's (CCP) Central Committee. It is also understandable, because Ren Xiaorong was developed by the CCP's news media company, People's Daily.
Ren Xiaorong is not the first digital presenter made in China. The country has previously created three AI news presenters in 2018. The three digital presenters are employed at news agencies in China such as Xinhua.
It's just that the ability of the three robots is considered obsolete. Especially now that new AI systems like ChatGPT are getting more sophisticated. That's what made China introduce a new presenter with higher abilities through Ren Xiaorong.
Robin Li, Chief Executive of Baidu, said that the existence of digital presenters in China was not presented to accelerate the artificial intelligence industry in that country. "This is only for trials for the initial user group, and because of 'market demand'," he said.
