The traditional attraction of rural Bengal is the mustard flower. All of us are mesmerized by the eye-catching beauty of the yellow mustard fields across the horizon in winter.
On winter days, the roads are covered with fog, the farmers run towards the empty fields with sickle in hand. The sweet aroma of date jaggery pita pies and the mind-blowing sight of mustard flowers make winter unique.
Seeing the mesmerizing sight of mustard flowers, everyone's soul is lifted. The open air of the fields on the horizon spread the sweet scent. But after a few days there will be no more mustard flowers in this mustard field! Then the bees will fly away.
It is not common to see so many flowers together as mustard flowers. Field after field is covered with mustard flowers. Who does not like to wake up in the foggy morning and see this scene like a yellow carpet in the courtyard.
Mustard flowers are not cultivated for beauty. Mustard is a crop plant that is grown in winter. Mustard is mainly grown for the purpose of obtaining mustard oil. But the mustard field has been playing a traditional role in the beautification of rural Bengal since ages.
When the mustard flowers cover the mustard fields, swarms of bees swarm in the hope of honey. But when there are no more mustard flowers, the bees are no longer to be found! Life is like this!
