Seeds in the Soil April 22 2023

I am blessed to be alive and to have somewhere to put down roots! Today I planted spinach, shallots, leafy lettuce, romaine lettuce, and carrots. These are crops that get planted in Spring, and I enjoy growing and eating. Feels great to have seeds in the ground!

After deciding on what I would plant today, I marked names on 5 disposable wood chopsticks.

Some of the seeds are from my own previous crops, and others were purchased from a local seed company. They are all heirloom and organic.

Next, I added another section to the garden:

And then placed a horizontal row of each of the 5 crops, marked with the chopsticks.

This took up about 1/2 of the available garden space. But I'm adding to that bit-by-bit, and hope to eventually have it like this:

You may have noticed the fire pit out back. It has been getting some use!

I hope you are accomplishing your goals this Spring!

Great! I will do my best.
Nice Spring weather here this week, got the garden expanded a little, and waiting for the first batch of seeds to germinate! More coming soon.

Wow I am excited to see the result of your garden! You've got lots of seeds. Happy gardening! 👌

I think I am accomplishing my spring goals, thanks. I should spend more time in the garden though.

That was another tasks accomplish. Gradually your field will be filled up with plants.

Yay great progress, I like those sticks with markings. Back in the days(late 90s), my father used to have his markings on a raw bamboo splint, specially when germinating various types of string bean. Because there were native (the shorter type), metro-bean(long type) and a purple bean.

The markings is being carved just like this, since ink was not that common those days in our village.

What a thrill!
Planting time and see how each of the seeds you planted grow, to later harvest and enjoy as a family.

Do your neighbors have some kind of planting on their patios? In Canada, do those who grow their own food barter?

In approximately two months you will be eating your lettuce unless it is of the late variety, which can be harvested in almost 3 months.

The important thing is that almost everything you are planting will be harvested between 50 and 80 days, perfect for a nice salad.
