September means the end of Summer, especially here in Northern Canada, so my garden is wrapping up for the year. But first, the tomato harvest!
I don't foresee a huge crop this year, but I'm going to enjoy whatever I manage to produce! The weather didn't cooperate - Summer came in May, then we got Spring in July and August. Also, I just moved here, and it took me half of Spring to get a garden dug up. Next year should be a lot better for tomatoes (and in general).
Getting ANY tomato harvest this far North is respectable, though. From asking around at the local farmers market, it seems only a handful of gardeners here are able to do it. I did it with hand tools, outside, on a budget of $0. Most importantly, I started from seed, not from small plants started by someone else! Difficulty level: HIGH.
I did manage to get a few nice ones this year:
My previous garden post can be found here, which is where you will see this sunflower:
I planted an Autumn crop of lettuce, and it has just emerged from the soil:
My calla lily has bloomed! It's an interesting colour.
Here are the latest daily update photos:
It took several hours of work to go from the first photo to the second! Funny that they don't look very different.
Autumn means mushroom season! Here's one I found growing on the grass:
Well, this fun guy from Canada is done blogging for now. Thanks for checking out my garden, as I transition from Summer into Autumn, and plan ahead for the bitter cold of Winter that isn't too far off.
Keep on growing!

Hmm, nice fresh tomatoes. Planning of starting mine next year and if possible to start a home animal husbandry too. I pray I save enough cash and get good space to start with too.
I think you will succeed, because you have the willpower and persistence to see it through. Africa is a wonderful continent, full of natural resources. You can create abundant food and I look forward to reading your posts about it, next growing season!
Thanks, am trying to put everything in order ahead of next year planting season.
What a joy that you already have tomatoes!
Sow some plants some time after you, the largest of which already have flowers. It motivates me a lot that you already have tomatoes, and to see that we are on par.
I also started harvesting them from scratch, from the seeds of a couple of tomatoes. Only that I spent a little on them buying tomatoes, but I feel happy to have planted them. They grow bigger and bigger and are very beautiful.
And how beautiful your flower plants, and lettuce. I have to buy some seeds. I read that they are a crop that is ready in approximately 40 days, something that pleases me a lot, because I will be able to harvest them soon.
Thank you very much for sharing your crops with us. You motivated me a lot to plant tomatoes.
A hug from Venezuela.
Gracias amiga, hugs back from Canada.
I'm happy to motivate you. I wish you success with your tomatoes! Will you do a post about them?
It has been a pleasure to grow these plants, and soon I will be enjoying the fruit : ))
Yes, I will write about them. I hope to be able to make a video for my YouTube channel, and thus share it on Blurt as well.
That tomato produce looks very juicy and crunchy. They look very healthy and so with your lettuce. Oh, the lilly is really very pretty too.
Congrats you have mastered gardening this summer! I think next summer you will abundantly harvest your crops. ♥️
Thanks! Yes, I think next Summer will be very exciting here in my garden.
That calla lilly is really pretty. It's looking like autumn already. Lots of things to scavenge for crafts! If our tomatoes are anything like the other ones we've gotten at the market this year, we're in for a treat. Maybe they're really tasty grown up here despite the difficulty. Another round of pissy lettuce would be good mmm mmm haha.
Yes, it's very pretty... did you see that it has turned a richer colour now?
When summer ends there, spring begins here, and surely you sow them.
Around here it has been raining a lot, however, it seems that spring is loaded with rain as well. Your tomatoes look spectacular, and you have done an excellent job with your garden.
Now I wonder... Won't you make a greenhouse for the cold months and be able to eat what you sow?
Si amigo! I plan to get a greenhouse to grow more plants in cool weather, and a cellar or cold storage for things like potatoes over the winter. I only have so much time, energy, and money... but I will definitely continue to work toward that! Thanks for your comment.
It's incredible what you got done, and what you harvested, during your first year there. And for $0! Well done.
I have tomatoes UP THE WAZOO. I wish I could ship them to you.
I would can a bunch of them, and send them back to you! I'm glad you did so well this year. Looking forward to next year? Plans to improve on certain things?
