There are things that are at stake in every election.

I just got off a very interesting Cross-cultural discussion with a nice bloke currently staying in Japan. The discussion transitioned from one talking point to another until it got to a talk about the forthcoming Nigeria election.

For the record, the election is scheduled to happen on 25th February 2023.

"What would he know about Nigerian Politics?" I thought... But, he surprisingly appeared to know more than I imagined. Haha. He even knows the name of one of the top candidates aspiring to be the next President of Nigeria. Oh, my world!

It turns out that so many people are anticipating what will become of this election. I believe that the reason that this election is causing a tremendous amount of noise within and outside the borders of Nigeria is that there are things that are at stake in this election. On the superficial level, the next 4-8 years of Nigeria's growth will be decided to a great degree but what plays out in this election?

You know, elections fundamentally strike at the very heart of the development of a country and Nigeria is a country that needs a lot of development. So it's no bloody wonder that things are getting loud and each candidate appears to be using their campaign as an instrument to blow their competence out of proportion.

• Each aspirant projects him or herself as the best person for the job.

• Each political party project itself as the best political party for the job.

• Each voter picks a candidate for whatever sophisticated or unsophisticated reason and says that they are voting for the best person for the job.

In all these, no one knows who will get it right. To be honest with y'all, even even if we get someone ready to do a perfect job throughout his/her tenure, you would be kidding to even think that the problem with Nigeria will be completely taken care of in 4-8 years.

It's just interesting to think of all these and I'm also filled with an undiluted surge of anticipation as I await what the trajectory of this country will be during and after our Presidential election.

Acabo de tener una discusión intercultural muy interesante con un buen tipo que se encuentra actualmente en Japón. La discusión pasó de un punto de conversación a otro hasta que llegó a hablar sobre las próximas elecciones en Nigeria.

Para que conste, la elección está programada para el 25 de febrero de 2023.

"¿Qué sabría él sobre la política de Nigeria?" Pensé... Pero, sorprendentemente, parecía saber más de lo que imaginaba. Ja ja. Incluso conoce el nombre de uno de los principales candidatos que aspiran a ser el próximo presidente de Nigeria. ¡Ay, mi mundo!

Resulta que mucha gente está anticipando lo que será de esta elección. Creo que la razón por la que esta elección está causando una enorme cantidad de ruido dentro y fuera de las fronteras de Nigeria es que hay cosas que están en juego en esta elección. En un nivel superficial, los próximos 4 a 8 años de crecimiento de Nigeria se decidirán en gran medida, pero ¿qué sucede en estas elecciones?

Ya sabes, las elecciones golpean fundamentalmente en el corazón mismo del desarrollo de un país y Nigeria es un país que necesita mucho desarrollo. Así que no es de extrañar que las cosas se estén volviendo ruidosas y que cada candidato parezca estar usando su campaña como un instrumento para desproporcionar su competencia.

• Cada aspirante se proyecta como la mejor persona para el puesto.

• Cada partido político se proyecta como el mejor partido político para el trabajo.

• Cada votante elige a un candidato por cualquier razón sofisticada o sencilla y dice que está votando por la mejor persona para el puesto.

En todos estos, nadie sabe quién acertará. Para ser honesto con todos ustedes, incluso si preparamos a alguien para hacer un trabajo perfecto durante su mandato, sería una broma pensar que el problema con Nigeria se resolverá por completo en 4 a 8 años.

Es interesante pensar en todo esto y también estoy lleno de una oleada pura de anticipación mientras espero cuál será la trayectoria de este país durante y después de nuestra elección presidencial.
