Politics | This is already a hot talking point in Nigeria, isn't it?

As we (Nigerians) all know, the presidential election is building up and many people are losing their heads in this build-up. We hear of Atiku, Tinubu, Obi, Kwankwaso and co. These are the top aspirants in the forthcoming presidential election and they are making headlines every freaking day.

A lot of controversial statements are also coming up as part of the build-up to this election. At the moment, with the aid of the press, we also get to see a bunch of news reports with unverifiable praise or accusation toward an aspirant.

At this point, whenever I see 'Breaking News' related to politics, I usually wonder if the press is also shocked or just having fun. Seems more like a field day kinda stuff because they know that people like to talk about politics. I'm not particularly interested in those talks especially when it's all talk without action.

In recent times, the electoral process has proved to lack transparency and Genuity in multiple layers. People preach against vote selling but whenever you visit a pooling unit, you see voters hanging around with their voter's card only to shamelessly sell their vote to the highest bidder. I hope they can see the mess they got us into.

For the record, both the voters that sell their vote for petty Naira and the political parties that buy such votes are equally responsible for the distrust that is growing in our electoral process. They make a mess of each election, as they have been doing since antiquity.

After everything we've already experienced under the rulership of bad government, I genuinely want to see how people will react in the next presidential election. This forthcoming election is meant to be one for all. It is an opportunity for us to (at least) vote wisely and Political apathy should not be allowed to ruin this golden opportunity.

If my calculation is right, we have 8 months before the presidential election. The intensity is already getting higher. Everyone is scraping and getting emotional in their bid to show support for their candidate, but for me, who doesn't have a dog in the fight, it's easy to not be emotional about this.

I'd hope all eligible voters come out in mass to vote. I hope they don't get swayed by any vote buyer. Most importantly, I hope all vote counts.
