Merry Easter ☕️
Let me tell you, I've been doing the reverse of my Keto diet since arriving in this place, lol. I've also violated my "one coffee a day limit" rule. Why? Well, the yummies are so good, as is the coffee. It seems every household drinks good coffee, especially the way I like it. Yes, I've seen some people add sugar or even milk to it, but most (especially the older folk) drink it black.
It's Easter here and they have a pretty strong Easter tradition over here. Apart from the Christian/Catholic stuff, they also have some pre-christian European practices that's been a part of their culture for millennia. The same for Christmas.
I've been saying that, since arriving here, it's been winter all over again. With the exception of the few sunny days, it's been snowing quite a lot with temperatures dipping below zero frequently.
We've been having a white Easter
I thought it quite apt, then, when I was presented with a platter of cukroví (Czech Christmas cookies) to go with my coffee. I had originally planned to come here during the Winter period actually, which would have included Christmas, to experience the skiing on the mountains. Since I couldn't make it, due to covid shenanigans, they decided to prepare me some christmasy sweets :). How thoughtful. Also, since it felt more like Yule than a Ostern, it was even more appropriate.
Can I just say, of all the things to consume with coffee, I can't think of anything better than these insanely delicious little biscuity things. They're easy to overeat, and overeat them I did. My coffee was also made in a pretty large mug, with a serving of two in one, leading to a violation of my one-cup rule in just one sitting 😂
I didn't get to see which exact coffee it was, but I'm willing to bet it was Dadák Rocca, one of the most popular Czech roasted "Turkish" style coffees consumed here. I've actually done a review of it on this blockchain before, but I can't find it to link here. It's a very dark, strong roast. I often buy a few packs of the ground coffee to take home since I don't think I can find it in London. Thankfully, roasted coffee has a good lifespan, so my little stash wont spoil :)
So, we weren't just gathering to eat and be merry. It was someone's kid's 14th birthday during the Easter weekend. Actually, that was the 3rd birthday so far and there are another two in the following days. Much eating and merry-making ahead.
Unlikely Combo
We had the usual starter, some kind of savoury noodle soup. I love this soup and always go for seconds. The Czechs aren't afraid of flavour as we are in England. They put the flavour in the food. It's up to you to like it or not. In England, heavy flavouring is avoided so the consumer can add their own flavour after the fact - sometimes including salt.
There were different meals to chose from, but I went for one that I hadn't had before - some very tender beef in a cream based sauce of some kind and a side helping of dumpling bread. The sauce was very tasty and was a mix of sweet and savoury. It was at that point someone suggested I put whipped cream and what looked like jam. "What?! With beef? Nah!". I was, however, assured that it would level-up the taste. So I obliged and wow! They were right. Always trust a native about their own food I suppose :)
This was all before the coffee session with the cookies of course, and after having had some finger food prior. When I return to London, I'll be back on my Keto for the month of May and possibly June before relaxing it back again. My parents will be around though, so I'm sure my mum's cooking may tempt me off the Keto train. I will be happily tempted. I'm not a nutrition extremist :)
As for coffee, I'll still try to hold on to the one-a-day, probably with one or two days here and there when I allow myself an extra one (or two? 🤣) ☕️
Peace & Love,
Adé
Glad you're enjoying the holidays, Bruv! It's always wonderful to experience other cultures. I'm sure you imagined that "Project One Cuppa" was bound to fail! 😂 You're looking good, so I'm sure you'll be able to work off that extra kilo when you get home. Have a great Sunday, Bro! I'll bless you with some extra votes later; got to respect the 24 hour thingy. 😉
Lol! Fanx bruv! 😂 very appreciated. Yeah I’ll have to get some cardio and resistance training in there asap when I return. I can feel myself getting lazier everyday 😂

hmmm I have also stopped my diet this Easter, and you have been very tempted hahaha those cookies look delicious, although I would like to eat them with a hot chocolate...
Here the tradition at Easter is to eat fish and not eat any meat, but they no longer follow it like when I was a girl, before they even said that if you ate meat something would happen to you, I don't remember what it was, hahaha.
Lol. Yeah I think it’s a Catholic thing. I remember the meat threat thing too. 😂 It’s really no use having a strict diet during Christmas or Easter 😅
