Decentralization Day: Dear Judge, I Want My Money Back

As Blurtopians wrestle with yet another drama, Steemit Inc. gains a momentous victory over the Hive High Counsel and their Minions. This is a moment for pause, reflection and the seeking to understand where all this bickering will take us.

On the 30th of March 2022, United States District Judge, Elizabeth K. Dillon, ordered Bittrex to return 14,468,436 STEEM and 130.251 SBD that were stolen from Steemit by Hive hackers, and sent to the Bittrex exchange. THESE WERE TOKENS THAT WERE HARDFORKED AWAY FROM CERTAIN ACCOUNTS THAT WERE CONSIDERED TO BE BAD ACTORS BY STEEMIT INC. AND THE TOP 20 STEEM CONSENSUS WITNESSES!

Notestein v. Bittrex, Inc.

And yes, I read the whole thing, so please do not troll me with comments about the details of the Judge's ruling.

On the 18th of May 2022, as pursuant to the Judge's order, Steemit Inc. received the disputed tokens from Bittrex.

NOW, can we sit down like civil human beings and work out our differences, or shall we take the uglier path?

If you read it, you will know that number is the UNDISPUTED STEEM - not all of it.
The 14.4 mil sent is not the same as the original 23.6 mil "hacked".
What is also amusing is what happened next:
https://steemit.com/steemit/@randulakoralage/21-million-steem-are-going-from-steemit-account-to-binance-what-is-really-going-on

Anyway, looks like under 10 mil STEEM appears still to be disputed.

D. Amount and Value of Steem in Dispute
Plaintiffs have informed Bittrex that their calculation of the amount of Steem in dispute amounts to 8,752,313.006 Steem and 294.207 Steem-Backed Dollars. Plaintiffs have calculated the total value of the Disputed Steem to be $3,940,276.70. (Ex. B, Dkt. No. 62-1.) Bittrex has not confirmed the amounts in dispute but accepts plaintiffs’ calculations as true for purposes of its proposed Interpleader Bond.

In addition to the Disputed Steem, Bittrex represents that there is a portion of the Steem held in Bittrex’s Steem wallet that is undisputed —approximately 14,468,436 units of Steem and 130.251 Steem-Backed Dollars that have not been claimed by plaintiffs or any claimant other than Steemit. Bittrex understands that once the Undisputed Steem has been returned to Steemit, Steemit will have no objection to Bittrex’s discharge from this litigation.

What was most relevant for me in this case, and the take away message for those bickering here on Blurt, is this: the plaintiffs, who I lovingly refer to as the Hive High Counsel and their Minions did not receive a single STEEM, not one cent, zero, nothing, nada, zilch; and they spent two years paying for their lawyers, AND they also had to pay for the legal fees that Bittrex incurred. Was it worth it? I laugh heartily when I hear people talk about lawsuits; especially in this make-believe world of Blurtopia. People have no idea what you have to go through when you engage in Court battles!

The remainder of the STEEM was not sought by Steemit because that would require Steemit Inc. to initiate their own lawsuit against Bittrex, and I don't believe they want to do that.

Steemit was brought into the case as an interpleader on behalf of Bittrex, and in an effort to contest the Hive members who wanted to convince the Judge that the tokens belonged to them. The Hive group also attempted to enter as interpleader under the title of John Doe because they wanted to remain anonymous. So the 14M STEEM was the total of those plaintiffs (Hive members) who brought the lawsuit under their real name. They could not claim the entire sum because certain members wanted to remain John Does; but the Judge gave them a swift kick in the ass. So Steemit was only able to contest those officials plaintiffs who brought the case. The remainder could be sought if another lawsuit is initiated by Steemit Inc., and they would easily win because the losing plaintiffs (Hive members) have already lost their chance to claim the tokens. Only the John Does could come in and contest, but they too would lose. Apparently, with disclosure, depositions and other testimony, Steemit Inc. was able to convince the Judge that the tokens belong to Steemit. In fact, the tokens were not returned to the original account from which they were stolen, but rather to the official Steemit account. This sets a precedent for Blurt, as the Judge was clearly persuaded that the tokens belong to Steemit.

Re🤬eD
Great coverage!
I was always ready to go back to STEEM while hive was burning itself down. ... Glad I stayed on BLURT for now but if it keeps getting disrespectful here, I'm going back to STEEM 🥓

Highest Regards bruv ✊

Thanks Bro! I was always in favor of Steem from the very beginning. I tried to test the waters on Hive around the same time I came to Blurt, but didn't last long there. Disrespect exists everywhere; it is up to ourselves whether we allow that negativity to taint our experience. I left Steemit because it got boring to me compared to Blurt, but I have no complaints about Steem; it was a good experience, which made me wiser and more capable of understanding Blurt, and formulating my own independent thoughts on what happens here. This is not the first, nor will it be the last drama. 😉

You and me got a lot in common ✊🤬🥓🤙

Good steemit has been totally unproblematic since the hive people left. It’s really fine now. I’m glad that steemit won good on them.

Also recently Bittrex sent some millions of steem tokens to steemit inc. and then this will be the totality of it.

The ones I noted in the post are the last tokens that were sent to Steemit from Bittrex, so your referring to the same STEEM. It remains to be seen if Steemit will be able to recuperate the rest, or if they will just let the situation rest as is.

Oh yeah I haven't noticed the date, I thought that it was the possibly second tranche which I guess that steemitinc will also get soon as they already had been given a part of the total amount.

I don't think that Steemit will pursue the remainder of the STEEM, as this would require Steemit to file a lawsuit against Bittrex. I think Steemit understands that Bittrex was dragged into this, of no fault of their own, and so they might just let it go.

Wow. Great post. ReBlurtted.

Yes. Fighting gets us nowhere. I’m just going to mute all the negativity.

Thank you for your kind words! And your wise words! It's so easy and intelligent to mute out the negativity! 😉

Big win for Steemit.

Huge victory! I always knew it would end this way, and I have some very old smartcasts from years ago where I stated that this is what would eventually happen. Thanks for the support! 🙏

Well to behave as humans and adults or leave is about the only options.

I laugh every time someone threatens legal action against blurt. It will be very hard for them to nail down some few guys just building shit and 20 witnesses.

They should try, lets see how far it goes.

And this applies to so many areas of life. We can either be civil, be savage or move on!

I so agree with you! People think legal battles are like in the movies! NOT!!! And you are right, they would never be able to convince a Judge of the fantasies that are created here on Blurt.

They should try, lets see how far it goes.

I hope they don't. I'm a compassionate person, so I don't want to see anyone waste so much time and money on a losing case. Besides, in my humble opinion, all this talk about legal action is just a bunch of bluffing.
