Can you do better than them? - Don't speak ill of others.

Whenever you are watching a game of football, Chess, Checkers and a list of other games, it's always easier to identify where and when a player is getting it wrong. You feel like a pro while watching from the sidelines, but I honestly believe that if you find yourself in the position of one of the players, you may end up making more mistakes.

That, my friends, is exactly how it feels. It's the fate of a critic. You see what others are not doing right. Do you think you could have done better than them?

This topic is a very interesting one.

The essence of this post is to remind us that nobody is perfect. People make mistakes. People can be unfit for a position but still, be in that position. Politicians are good examples in this case. Even in this content creation, we do in places like this, not everyone is getting it right.

With the things I know, I can sniff out some things that can be done better when I see some posts. Let's say the image sourcing, the choice of image, wording, editing and co. I'm also sure some people look at what I post and they see so many things that can be better if I make some adjustments somewhere.

This is pretty much the same in all other areas of life.

  • Is anything wrong with seeing those errors? Nope!

  • Is anything wrong with giving people correction when they make mistakes? Nope!

  • What if we speak ill of people for making such mistakes or for not being good enough? That Is wrong!

You can read that again and be clear about my standing because I didn't mince words. At this point, everyone needs to know where they stand on this.

Are you one of those that criticize or do you fall under the category that speaks ill of people's works and activities?

This is getting interesting. I think am onto something here so let's try to point out the difference between 'criticising' and 'speaking ill of' as used in the context of this post.

1. Criticize: To point out the faults of something or someone. ~ Merriam Webster.

2. Speak ill of: To criticize (someone or something) 'unfairly' ~ Collins dictionary.

That's close. The difference between both is borderline. It's safe to say that in most cases, only the critic knows if he is genuinely criticising or if he is merely speaking ill of something or someone. If you are doing the former, good luck to you. But for those doing the latter, you need to think about the situation of those you are speaking ill of.

Just to put this in context, even silly rumours that started from a pub in a countryside can cause long damage to people's reputations.

Nothing is inspiring about speaking ill of others.

As usual, I would like to know what you all think about this. Is there any good reason to speak ill of others?
