While stationed oversees , it was reported that many soldiers became addicted to heroin and a large amount of them quits the addiction when the return home. This could be seen as a direct result of the availability and scarcity of the heroin.

It was reported that heroin was readily available to them while in Vietnam and was in most cases incorporated in their daily routine but on getting , the heroin becomes scarce which leads to them breaking the habits.
