One crucial aspect of the author's arguement is that their is a link between habits and identity.

According to him, habit is not only about achieving external goal , it is also deeply rooted to our identity as a person.

so the best way to achieve this is to focus on the type of person you want become and not just on setting goals. You will create a more sustainable path to personal development if we can really identify the type of person we qwant to become and then align our habits towards this identity.

Smokers were used as a case study by the author , the author discussed that focusing your attention on quitting smoking is not only enough as you also need to focus on being a non smoker, this reinforces the habits.
