Commitment Devices
To drive home his lessons , another concept was introduced by the author , its called the commitment device, tools , or strategies , these device is modeled in such a way that it looks you into the good behavior and makes it very hard to continue with bad behaviors. It is a form of preemptive decisions that helps you to constrain future actions , this now in turn helps creates a form of consequences when we slip into bad habits.
Examples include:
Making payments in advance for a fitness class .
avoiding unnecessary spending by setting up automatic savings.
some software known as website blockers are available which helps you to prevent access to distracting files and sites.
These commitments is very helpful because not only will it make bad habits difficult , it will also make it very expensive and the good habits to be rewarding.
It automates discipline and reduces the need for willpower.
