When I was on my annual holiday in Nigeria, I was honored to celebrate mass and interact with students of Mt. Carmel girls secondary school Makurdi. This brought a nostalgic feeling in me because, in some cultures, the girl child is seen as an object that exist only to serve man's needs... some even say "the role of a woman is to serve in the kitchen and the bedroom."
During my homily, I spoke to the students about the dignity and beauty of being a lady. The joy and smiles on thier faces was priceless.
The beauty of a girl child goes beyond physical appearance. It encompasses their unique qualities, strengths, and potential.
Girls are often characterized by their resilience, empathy, creativity, and intelligence. Their presence brings joy, warmth, and a sense of wonder to the world. The innocence, curiosity, and kindness of a girl child are what make them truly beautiful.
It is important to nurture and celebrate these qualities to help them grow into confident, empowered individuals who can make a positive impact on society.
